The improved paperbead includes an elongated core having an outer surface. A paper strip is bonded to the outer surface of the core. The paper is impregnated on one side with a polymer, preferably latex, that penetrates only about half the thickness of the paper. The other side of the paper is roughened to improve adhesiveness to joint compounds.
