  • Patent number: 6074789
Abstract: A method for improving the adherence of a phosphor screen to the face panel of a color cathode ray tube involves placing a UV reflective filter on the inside of the face panel prior to photolithographic forming of the screen, in order to reflect transmitted UV light back onto those areas form which the light emerged, thereby effectively increasing the exposure dosage of those areas.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 10, 1996
Date of Patent: June 13, 2000
    Assignee: Philips Electronics N.A. Corp.

  • Patent number: 6013978
Abstract: Adherence of the phosphor screen to the face panel of a color cathode ray tube is improved by placing a UV-reflective filter on the inside of the face panel prior to photolithographic forming of the screen, in order to reflect transmitted UV light back onto those areas from which the light emerged, thereby effectively increasing the exposure dosage of those areas.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5903089
Abstract: The bulls-eye effect produced in the projected image by projection television cathode ray display tubes with convexly curved faceplates and multi-layer interference filters is compensated by using darkened or tinted glass. Since the faceplate glass is thicker in the center, more attenuation of the light output occurs there than at the edges of the display window where the glass is thinner, resulting in improved luminance uniformity of the display.

  • Patent number: 5798607
Abstract: The brightness of a color CRT with a pigmented phosphor screen is improved by providing a composite layered screen in which a first layer of the composite layer is a relatively thin, heavily pigmented layer and a second is non-pigmented.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5569977
Abstract: Output and/or perceived persistence of visible light from a cathode ray tube is improved by incorporating a UV-excitable phosphor into the screen, and by placing a UV-reflective filter on the inside of the display panel prior to formation of the phosphor screen, so that UV light emitted from the screen upon excitation by the tube's electron beam(s) is reflected back onto the screen to excite the further emission of visible light.

  • Patent number: 5213918
Abstract: A color reference CRT of the type employing a screen of a pattern of individual phosphor elements of different color components, is produced by adjusting the screen weights of the different color components to achieve the desired reference color when the screen is scanned by an electron beam of predetermined beam current and anode potential.

  • Patent number: 5065071
Abstract: The bulls-eye effect produced by projection television cathode ray display tubes with convexly curved faceplates and multi-layer interference filters is compensated by increasing the optical absorption of one of the filter layers having a decreasing center-to-edge thickness gradient. Since the layer is thicker in the center, more attenuation of the light output occurs there than at the edges of the display window, resulting in improved luminance uniformity of the display.

  • Patent number: 4618206
Abstract: The invention provides means for achieving improved adherence between the terminal closure portion of a cathode ray tube and its associated base member. The improvement relates to the forming of a circular array of discretely fashioned spatially related indents or pocket-like reservoirs in the flange portion of the base member. These indents accommodate the advantageous deposition of additional dielectric adhesive in the peripheral region of the flange to realize the desired tube-to-base adherence.

  • Patent number: 4552459
Abstract: A device and method for measuring the reflectivity of the tungsten oxide surface coating on cathode ray tube heaters are described, in which selected small areas of an illuminated heater wire turns are scanned by a microscope, and the collected reflected light converted to voltage values by a photomultiplier tube and compared to a standard value.

  • Patent number: 4485329
Abstract: A cathode ray tube has discrete x-ray absorbing means integrally associated with the face region thereof to beneficially attenuate the x-radiation emanating peripherally and forwardly therefrom. Attached to the tube face is a closed frame-like resilient gasket impregnated with x-ray absorbing material. Superposed thereon is a cover plate of x-ray absorbing glass. This is adhered to the tube face by a layer of substantially transparent adhesive confined within the gasket.

  • Patent number: 3953621
Abstract: An improved process is provided for forming at least one set of elements of a patterned CRT screen disposed in overlay relationship upon an opaquely defined windowed-webbing priorly applied to the interior surface of the tube viewing panel in accordance with an apertured mask. The invention concerns the placement of a reflective medium over the exterior surface of the panel during screen exposure. By this means the exposure radiation traversing the screen and panel is reflected back through the respective windows in the screen structure to augment the polymerization and adherence of the pattern elements.
