    Abstract: A stand (10) is provided for supporting an object (12), in a vertical orientation. The stand (10) includes a base (20) which has a holding mechanism (42) mounted thereon. The holding mechanism (42) includes gripping means (44) for gripping the object above the but end (18) thereof. An eccentric mount (98) provides means for shifting the horizontal position of the holding mechanism (42) relative to a center point (30) of the base (20), thereby to adjust the vertical alignment of the object (12).
