  • Patent number: 4504894
Abstract: A lighting unit for indirect illumination of an area. The unit has a reflective surface contoured to direct reflected light rays from a source generally upward at predetermined angles for reflection by a surface above the lighting unit providing a symmetrical lighting pattern over the area to be illuminated. The reflective surface is contoured so as to eliminate glare interference to the area to be illuminated by controlling the angle of emanation of the light rays from the lighting unit.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 13, 1980
Date of Patent: March 12, 1985
    Assignee: Whiteway Manufacturing Co.
    Inventor: Robert L. Reibling
  • Patent number: 4386392
Abstract: A lighting unit for indirect illumination of an area. The unit has first and second reflective surfaces contoured to direct reflected light rays from a source generally upward at predetermined angles for reflection by a surface above the lighting unit providing a symmetrical substantially uniform intensity of light over the area to be illuminated. The lighting unit may have cut-off baffles for redirecting the light rays away from nearby or adjacent vertical surfaces providing an asymmetrical substantially uniform intensity of light over the area to be illuminated.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 17, 1980
Date of Patent: May 31, 1983
    Assignee: Whiteway Manufacturing Co.
    Inventor: Robert L. Reibling
  • Patent number: 4384318
Abstract: A task lighting apparatus produces glare-free illumination of a work area. The apparatus includes a light source, a reflector and light-directing louvers to provide a controlled light pattern of high illumination levels and high efficiency. The apparatus has a compact size and shape which enables it to be used in confined quarters.

    Assignee: Kidde Consumer Durables Corp.
    Inventor: Robert L. Reibling
  • Patent number: 4188657
Abstract: A reflector comprising a pair of mirror-image reflector half-sections is adapted to produce a plurality of different, distinctive and predictable light patterns by utilizing various combinations of reflective surface finishes on the reflective surfaces of the reflector half-sections.
