  • Patent number: 4192841
Abstract: A process for producing a pigment or dyestuff composition in the form of dustless readily-dispersible granules which comprises contacting, with agitation, an aqueous dispersion of a pigment, and an aniline which is liquid at temperature below 100.degree. C., insoluble in water at pH values above 7, and soluble in water at pH values below 7, the pH value being first above 7, maintaining the temperature above the melting point of the aniline and reducing the pH to below 7 to render the aniline compound soluble in water, and recovering the resulting granules in a solvent free condition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 24, 1978
Date of Patent: March 11, 1980
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
Inventors: George H. Robertson, Robert L. Rooney, Robert B. Todd
  • Patent number: 4188236
Abstract: A process for the production of a non-dusting pigment composition by contacting an aqueous dispersion of an organic pigment with(a) a solution or dispersion of an alkaline soluble rosin acid derivative(b) a sorbitan ester, and(c) a water-insoluble organic carrier having a melting point below 100.degree. C. at a temperature above the melting point of both the sorbitan ester and the organic carrier, reducing the pH to below .epsilon., stirring the composition until the pigment, rosin derivative, sorbitan ester and organic carrier are associated in generally spherical granules and recovering the resulting granules.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: February 12, 1980
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
Inventors: George H. Robertson, Alistair B. Boyd, Robert L. Rooney
  • Patent number: 4170487
Abstract: A process for producing a pigment or dyestuff composition in the form of dustless readily-dispersible granules which comprises contacting, with agitation, an aqueous dispersion of a pigment, a protective colloid, an aliphatic or araliphatic amine which is liquid at temperatures below 100.degree. C., insoluble in water at pH values above 7, and soluble in water at pH values below 7, and an organic carrier, the pH value being first above 7, maintaining the temperature above the melting point of the amine compound, and reducing the pH to below 7 to render the amine compound soluble in water, and recovering the resulting granules.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 24, 1978
Date of Patent: October 9, 1979
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
Inventors: George H. Robertson, Robert L. Rooney, Robert B. Todd
  • Patent number: 3974678
Abstract: A testing device is capable of automatically performing a uniform and accurate test to determine the cure of a film of paint or the like on a test panel. The tester includes a powered rub weight wrapped, at its point of contact with the panel, with a solvent saturated material that rubs on the panel as the weight is caused to move back-and-forth along the painted surface. A drive mechanism shifts the rub weight, which is of a predetermined weight, at a constant length and speed of stroke and a counter records the number of strokes required for the solvent to penetrate the film.
