Publication number: 20130213958Abstract: An improved air cargo container has a base sheet attached to a base, and an enclosure which overhangs the back end of the base. Spaced apart lateral base supports are attached to the base sheet adjacent to a back end of the base sheet. The lateral base supports are parallel to each other and are also parallel to left and right sides of the base. Longitudinal base supports may be attached to the rear corners of the base sheet. The base supports provide additional stiffness to the base sheet in the highly stressed areas. The air cargo container is better designed to resist service damage.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2012Publication date: August 22, 2013Inventor: Robert Looker

Patent number: 7942618Abstract: A cargo pallet cover and net assembly includes a cargo cover attached to a cargo net. The cargo net is attached to upper and lower side regions of the cargo cover so that the cargo cover and net assembly may be placed over a cargo load in one step. The cargo net is optionally attached at or near the lowermost side regions of the cargo cover so that the cargo cover is substantially prevented from obstructing attachment of the cargo net to a pallet on which the cargo load is supported.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2008Date of Patent: May 17, 2011Assignee: Satco, Inc.Inventor: Robert Looker

Publication number: 20090000526Abstract: A cargo container assembly includes a cargo container for transporting goods. A plurality of support assemblies are connected to a bottom of a base of the cargo container. Each support assembly includes a foot or support pad connected to the bottom of the base by one or more compressible, or otherwise shock-absorbing, leg mechanisms. One or more of the leg mechanisms optionally include a compression spring for providing shock absorption under loading conditions. The bottom surface of each support pad is preferably flat, or substantially flat, for resting on the ground or on other relatively even surfaces, and for facilitating movement of the support pad along roller-ball conveyors, roller-mats, and other conveyor systems. Because the support assemblies position the container base above the ground, the container assembly can readily be lifted by the arms of a pallet jack.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2007Publication date: January 1, 2009Inventor: Robert Looker

Publication number: 20070257031Abstract: A cargo container assembly includes a main container and an extension container which can be attached to an upper portion of the main container. The extension container may be attached to the main container via a locking mechanism or cables attached to or integral with the main container or the extension container. During ground shipping, the extension container and the main container may be separated from each other so that they may stay within ground transport height limitations. An optional transportation pallet, onto which one or more extension containers may be stacked and secured, may be included for ground transportation. During air shipping, an extension container and a main container may be attached to each other to maximize use of the available cargo space in an aircraft.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2006Publication date: November 8, 2007Inventor: Robert Looker

Patent number: 7143989Abstract: An aircraft cargo and seating pallet having one or more internal stringer sections including a top section configured to engage a seat and/or a seat attachment. The top section may be a linear track along which the seat or seat attachment may slide, or it may include fixed attachment points for securing the seat to the pallet. The aircraft cargo and seating pallet may also include one or more hinged flaps that are positionable over flanges extending outwardly from a lower portion of the pallet. As a result, the flanges are not exposed to passengers, and the open space between adjacent pallets is substantially minimized.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2003Date of Patent: December 5, 2006Assignee: Satco, Inc.Inventor: Robert Looker

Patent number: 7063227Abstract: An air cargo container includes a base, two side walls, and a rear wall. The side walls each included a curved front edge. A retractable or roll-up door is located between the side walls. The door is extendible from an open position in which the door is retracted or rolled-up, to a closed position in which the door follows the curved front edges of the side walls and terminates at a position adjacent to the base. A support member is attached along the curved front edge of each of the side walls. The support members each include a channel for receiving a cable on a side edge of the retractable door. One or more levers on each support member are rotatable from an open position to a closed position in which the levers secure the cables within the channels in the support members.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2003Date of Patent: June 20, 2006Assignee: Satco, Inc.Inventor: Robert Looker

Publication number: 20050199158Abstract: An air cargo pallet includes a base metal sheet and extruded edge rails. A metal reinforcing strip is attached to a top surface of the metal base sheet and can run substantially across the entire width of the base sheet. The reinforcing strip divides the unsupported area of the base sheet, thereby reducing the effects of “oil canning” on the base sheet. Lower cost metals may be used for forming the base sheet.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 18, 2005Publication date: September 15, 2005Inventor: Robert Looker

Patent number: 6824338Abstract: An air cargo container assembly for rapid air shipment of emergency and other supplies, without netting, includes sub-containers attachable to a base plate via locking mechanisms on the sub-containers. The locking mechanisms pass through openings in the base and engage a downward-facing surface of the base. Each locking mechanism includes a latch having a rotatable shaft, a head connected to a bottom end of the shaft, a plate connected to a top end of the shaft. A spring biases the plate toward the bottom surface of the sub-container. A lever is attached to the shaft between the head portion and the spring. The shaft and head portion are rotatable between an unlocked position and a locked position via the lever. One or more guide members may be mounted on the base to help align the sub-containers.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2002Date of Patent: November 30, 2004Assignee: Satco, Inc.Inventor: Robert Looker

Patent number: 6353982Abstract: A method and apparatus by which to repair a damaged portion of a net utilized to restrain movement. Attachment hooks or other hardware, constructed of a material, such as aluminum or steel, of a strength equal to or greater than the net material are secured to the ends of an appropriately sized rope or other material, constituting a bridging device. The attachment hooks or other hardware are constructed of a thickness, and with a radius interface, so that cutting of the net will not occur. The damaged area of the net is isolated, and the net repair bridge is affixed in the position of the damaged area, thereby replacing it and preserving the structural and functional capabilities of the containment net.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2000Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Assignee: Satron, Inc.Inventors: Robert Looker, Richard McLennan

Patent number: 5765978Abstract: An improved restraint apparatus for cargo carrying vehicles. Plate-like inserts are sandwiched together to form a body which can be secured to a conventional cargo tie-down track. One or more center inserts may be sandwiched between one or more peripheral inserts which mate with the standard railed track used in cargo vehicles. Peripheral inserts alone may also be used. A tie-down aperture is provided to allow lines to tie to or wrap around the body. A plunger attached to the inserts is biased by a spring to cause controlled movement of the plunger so that it mates with the track and can "fix" or "set" the apparatus where desired.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1996Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignee: Satron, Inc.Inventors: Robert Looker, Richard McLennan
