  • Patent number: 6702081
Abstract: A multi-mode torque-transmitting assembly includes a plate-supporting element having an axis, and a plate connected to the plate-supporting element such that the plate is axially movable with respect to the plate-supporting element between a first position and a second position in response to applied axial forces. Furthermore, the assembly includes a movement-inhibiting member in sufficient cooperation with the plate for selectively inhibiting axial movement of the plate. The movement-inhibiting member inhibits movement of the plate from the first position in response to a first axial force, and allows movement of the plate toward the second position in response to a second axial force greater than the first axial force, such that the assembly is operable in more than one mode.

  • Publication number: 20020151400
Abstract: An electro-hydraulic control for a six speed power transmission has three shift control valves that are each actuated by a spring and a solenoid valve. The shift valves are positioned in either a spring set or a pressure set position to establish flow paths to five torque transmitting mechanisms (friction devices) that are engaged according to a predetermined schedule to establish six forward speed ratios and one reverse ratio. A pair of high ratio control valves and a pair of low ratio control valves operate to control the actuation pressures for the friction devices. The actuation pressures are distributed through a switching valve. The high ratio control valves control the on coming friction device with an increasing pressure schedule while the low ratio control valves control the off going friction device with a decreasing pressure schedule.

  • Patent number: 6258010
Abstract: A hydraulic control for an automatic shifting transmission has a plurality of shift logic valves, a high ratio control valve, a low ratio control valve and respective pressure control valves for controlling the bias pressure on the ratio control valves. The shift logic valves control the distribution of fluid to a plurality of torque transmitting mechanisms from the proper ratio control valve. During an upshift sequence, the high ratio control valves establishes the engagement pressure in the oncoming torque transmitting mechanism and the low ratio control valve establishes the engagement pressure in the offgoing torque transmitting mechanism. The pressure from the high ratio control valve is also delivered to a control port on the low ratio control valve to force the exhausting of the offgoing torque transmitting mechanism when the oncoming torque transmitting mechanism reaches its critical torque capacity.
