  • Patent number: 5333750
Abstract: The meter box has an inside wall defining a cavity and having upper and lower ends, with upper and lower openings respectively leading to the cavity whereby the cavity may receive a meter by way of the lower opening. An outside wall having upper and lower ends is spaced from and surrounds the inside wall. A receptacle wall is coupled between the upper ends of the inside and outside walls for receiving and supporting a cover. A flange is coupled to and surrounds the outside wall between the upper and lower ends of the outside wall. The flange has an upper flange wall coupled to the outside wall and a lower flange wall spaced from the upper flange wall. The outside wall has alternate inner and outer wall sections spaced from each other and having upper and intermediate ends respectively. The lower flange wall is coupled to the intermediate ends of the outside wall sections of the outside wall.

  • Patent number: 5249697
Abstract: A meter pit is formed by a container having a side wall extending 360 degrees around a central axis and having top and bottom edges at top and bottom ends respectively forming a chamber. A bottom central opening is formed at the bottom end for receiving a meter for location in the chamber. An upper wall extends radially inward 360 degrees from the top edge of the side wall with an upper central opening formed therethrough. The upper wall has an annular outer rim extending radially inward from the top edge to an annular groove and an annular inner rim extending from the groove to the upper central opening. The upper wall is employed to support a cover holder of the type having a circular outer edge with arcuate extensions or an arcuate extension extending downward from its bottom side for insertion into the annular groove. Cut out slots extend along the lower half of the side wall to facilitate entry of pipes into the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5193859
Abstract: A pipe coupling member for coupling together the ends of two pipes has a sleeve portion and a band member. The sleeve portion has an opening that extends between first and second ends. The band member is band shaped and is lcoated or embedded with the wall of the sleeve portion so as to be concentric therewith. The sleeve portion is made of a flexible elastomeric material and the band member is made of either fiber glass or polycarbonate plastic to provide reinforcement. The band member is stiff, yet resilient. The band member is confined to a central portion of the sleeve portion so that the first and second ends are flexible. The coupling member is manufactured using an annular mold. In the production process, the band member is supported and located within the central portion of the mold annulus by plural pins extending from the mold ends in a longitudinal direction. The annulus is then filled with elastomeric material. After molding, the pins are pulled out of the coupling member.

  • Patent number: 5161836
Abstract: Two clamp members are formed to be fitted around the outer wall of a flexible sleeve when the ends of two pipes are located in the opening of the sleeve with adjacent edges of the two clamp members engaging each other in a clamped position for clamping the sleeve to the ends of the two pipes. Each of the clamp members has two spaced apart clamping ridges extending radially inward from its inner wall continuously between its two edges. The two clamping ridges of the two clamp members are located such that when the two clamp members are located around the outer wall of the sleeve and adjacent edges of the two clamp members engage each other, the two clamping ridges of the two clamp members form two spaced apart clamping ridges extending 360 degrees around the inside walls of the two clamp members for engaging the outside wall of the sleeve forming a seal between the sleeve and the ends of the two pipes when located in the opening of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4966397
Abstract: A flexible saddle device provides a leak-proof tap into pipes of various sizes. The saddle device, which is made of a flexible elastomeric material, has a fitting portion for receiving the end of a branch pipe and a coupling portion for coupling onto a main pipe. The coupling portion includes an arcuate wall that can be flexed to accommodate the outside diameters of various sized pipes. The coupling portion has circumferential edge portions which extend circumferentially on the main pipe and longitudinal edge portions which extend longitudinally on the main pipe. The longitudinal edge portions each have a stiffener, which is made of a relatively stiff material, and a lip that projects inwardly from the inner surface of the coupling portion. The stiffeners extend between the circumferential edge portions and resist outward bowing when the coupling portion is flexed to fit onto a pipe that is of a smaller radius than the unflexed coupling portion.

  • Patent number: 4852602
Abstract: There is disclosed a check valve apparatus for use with risers in an irrigation system. The valve apparatus stops the flow of water when the respective riser is broken away from the water supply conduit. The valve apparatus has a conduit member and a valve member. The conduit member has an opening extending therethrough and between the ends of the conduit member. A shoulder positioned intermediate the conduit member ends projects inwardly. The valve member seats on the shoulder, wherein it is in the open position. When the riser is subjected to a sufficient amount of force, the coupling member severs at a weakened portion, thereby severing the shoulder and allowing the valve member to close to minimize the flow of water.

  • Patent number: 4608858
Abstract: The test plug is used for testing water or sewer lines for leaks. It comprises a hollow inflatable bulb attached to a handle. The bulb has an opening in fluid communication with an aperture extending through the handle. The bulb is inserted into the opening of the line and air under pressure is injected into the bulb to cause it to inflate to form a seal in the line for test purposes. After the test, the bulb is deflated and removed from the opening. The bulb has a plurality of ridges on its inside to cause the bulb to return to its original shape upon deflation. The ridges are in two sets. One set of ridges are in spaced apart lines, each of which extends from near the opening of the bulb to the opposite end thereof. The other set of ridges are in spaced apart lines each of which extends continuously around the inside of the bulb near the end opposite its opening.

  • Patent number: 4163503
Abstract: A rectangular shape lid for closing a rectangular shaped top opening of a water meter housing. The lid is formed of plastic material and has a seating surface on its lower side for engaging the upper edge of the housing for support purposes. This feature allows the lid to fit housings having different size openings. Lower supporting ridges are formed on the lower side of the lid in such a manner that they allow the lid to fit housings having different radius of curvature at the corners. Hooks are provided on opposite ends of the lid for securing the lid to the housing. Also provided is a housing formed of plastic material. The housing has an upper edge formed by inner and outer ridges which define the top opening. The inner and outer ridges are joined together at a position below the upper edge and extend away from each other in an upward direction. Connecting ribs extend between the inner and outer ridges to form a strong upper edge for supporting a lid.
