  • Patent number: 5723055
Abstract: A refractory nozzle assembly is provided that effectively prevents the accumulation of alumina deposits around its upper edge where it receives a stopper rod. The nozzle assembly includes a refractory nozzle body having an upper and a lower portion. A bore extends through both the upper and lower portions that has a receiving and a discharge end for receiving and discharging molten metal. An inert gas distributor circumscribes the upper portion of the nozzle body. A sleeve of gas-obstructing refractory material covers the walls of the bore, and defines a seat portion at an upper portion of the bore. A metal sheath substantially surrounds the outer surface of the upper portion. Pressurized inert gas conducted to the upper, gas permeable portion of the nozzle body by the gas-distributing assembly is guided by the gas-obstructing sleeve and the metal sheath so that it flows predominantly through the top edge of the upper portion.

  • Patent number: 5451151
Abstract: A foam molding apparatus with improved seal for sealing the mold lid to the bowl. The bowl and lid include inclined sealing surfaces surrounding the mold cavity with the bowl sealing surfaces being concave and the lid sealing surface being convex. Both the bowl and lid are resiliently supported on frames so that the lid can self align upon the bowl as the convex lid sealing surface engages the concave bowl sealing surface. Adjusting screws are carried by the lid carrier frame and engage the lid to apply pressure to the lid forcing the lid against the bowl sealing surface with the bowl being resiliently carried on a supporting frame allowing the bowl to float relative to the frame to achieve an even pressure distribution about the mold cavity at the sealing surfaces. The lid and bowl are both formed with fluid passages to enable hot water to be circulated through the mold maintaining the mold at an elevated temperature.

  • Patent number: 4262055
Abstract: A fire protection material, suitable for use as a coating for structural members, produced by mixing a lightweight refractory aggregate including magnesia with ammonium phosphates in aqueous solution, wherein the composition of the phosphates is at least about 20% by weight polyphosphates, balance orthophosphate, and allowing the mixture to set as a fire protection coating or body having a bulk density of not more than about 50 lb./ft..sup.3.
