Patent number: 7660096Abstract: In a composite electrical circuit protection device, thermal coupling between a planar PPTC element and a planar MOV element is controlled by insertion of a thermal mass material for regulating heat transfer from the MOV element to the PPTC element, such that a PPTC resistor hot zone forms consistently away from the planar major foil electrode confronting the MOV thereby regulating heat transfer from the MOV to the PPTC resistor.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2006Date of Patent: February 9, 2010Assignee: Tyco Electronics CorporationInventors: Boris Golubovic, Paul N. Patent number: 7284954Abstract: A shroud for surrounding a portion of a turbine flow path having improved cooling and durability is disclosed. The shroud includes a plurality of generally axial cooling holes spaced a substantially equal distance apart and a plurality of generally circumferential cooling holes oriented generally perpendicular to the generally axial cooling holes. The generally circumferentially cooling holes are spaced a non-uniform distance apart so as to provide cooling to selected portions of shroud sidewalls to lower shroud operating temperatures and improve shroud durability.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2005Date of Patent: October 23, 2007Inventors: David G. Parker, Robert P. Moore, Charles Ellis

Patent number: 6824352Abstract: There is provided a gas turbine vane with an airfoil cooling circuit incorporating multiple generally radially extending rows of pedestals generally bisected by a plurality of axially extending ribs with the ribs containing a plurality of recessed cavities. The recessed cavities are positioned immediately adjacent pedestals located closest to the ribs such that a cavity passageway is formed to pass sufficient cooling air between the rib and pedestal to increase overall heat transfer and reduce pressure loss of the cooling fluid.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2003Date of Patent: November 30, 2004Assignee: Power Systems Mfg, LLCInventors: Robert P. Moore, Richard Seleski, Dale Lee Cox

Patent number: 6755373Abstract: A missile guidance system utilizing a single microwave radiometric sensor for both terrain correlation and target homing. Terrain correlation is used to get the missile within the acquisition range of the homing system, and the homing system is used in the terminal phase of operation.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1972Date of Patent: June 29, 2004Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: Robert P. Patent number: 5702232Abstract: An internally cooled airfoil for a gas turbine engine includes a leading edge region, a mid-chord region, a transition region, and a trailing edge region. The mid-chord region has a double wall configuration with the two outer walls and two inner walls. The trailing edge region has a conventional single wall configuration. The transition region has a three wall configuration designed to provide a gradual transition from the four wall configuration to the two wall configuration and to minimize high stresses therein.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1994Date of Patent: December 30, 1997Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventor: Robert P. Moore

Patent number: 5403157Abstract: The heat exchange rate in a passage in indirect heat exchange with a fluid medium is tailored to match its temperature gradient by "short circuiting" the flow in the passage to minimize heat transfer in regions requiring less heat exchange and maximizing heat transfer in regions requiring more heat exchange. The serpentine passageways of an air cooled turbine blade for a gas turbine engine is short circuited to match the temperature profile of the gas path passing by the blade.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1993Date of Patent: April 4, 1995Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventor: Robert P. Patent number: 5382133Abstract: A film cooling passage through the external wall of a hollow airfoil having in serial flow relation a metering section and a diffusing section, the diffusing section characterized in that it has four inward facing surfaces that define a passage having a generally rectangular cross-section and an outlet over which a hot gas stream flows in a "downstream" direction. One of the surfaces of the diffusing section is generally "downstream" of the other surfaces, and this surface defines a section of a circular cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1993Date of Patent: January 17, 1995Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventors: Robert P. Patent number: 4093836Abstract: A switch structure detects acceleration in a preselected direction such as, for example, along the pitch axis of an aircraft. The switch has a spring supported mass urged toward a stable centered position within the switch housing. Acceleration displaces the mass such that it trips a spring wire switch mechanism for controlling such avionic devices as the autopilot system of the aircraft. A pair of solenoid coils are wound around the spring mass system on opposite sides of the centered position of the mass. The switch may be preflight tested by successively energizing the solenoid coils to attract the mass toward the centers of the solenoid fields, thereby artifically displacing the mass against the spring wire switches.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1976Date of Patent: June 6, 1978Assignee: King Radio CorporationInventors: Robert J. Ewy, Robert P. Moore
