  • Publication number: 20100206251
Abstract: The invention relates to an internal combustion engine, comprising a cylinder block and a cylinder head, with at least one first cooling jacket (1) being arranged in the cylinder block' and at least one second cooling jacket (2) being arranged in the cylinder head, and a cooling fluid can flow through the cooling jackets (1, 2) substantially in the longitudinal direction of the internal combustion engine, and with both the cylinder block and the cylinder head having separate inflows (6, 8) and outlets (7, 9) for the cooling fluid which communicate with the respective cooling jacket (1, 2) in the cylinder block and cylinder head. In order to ensure even cooling especially of thermally loaded regions of the cylinder head, it is provided that at least one flow transfer (10, 11) is arranged between the first cooling jacket (1) of the cylinder block and the second cooling jacket (2) of the cylinder head.

  • Publication number: 20100132639
Abstract: A liquid-cooled internal combustion engine which includes a cylinder housing for at least one cylinder and at least one cylinder head, with the at least one cylinder in the cylinder housing being enclosed by a cooling jacket and with a bottom partial cooling chamber adjacent to a fire deck and an upper partial cooling chamber which is flow-connected with the same via at least one transfer opening being arranged in the cylinder head which is connected with the cylinder housing, with a coolant outlet which can be connected with a pressure sink originating from the bottom partial cooling chamber.

  • Publication number: 20090314230
Abstract: The invention relates to a crankcase breathing system (1) for an internal combustion engine, comprising at least one oil separating apparatus with a preliminary separator (3) and a main separator (4) arranged downstream of the same, with the preliminary separator (3) comprising a diffuser (11) between an inlet (7) and an outlet (8) which expands in the direction of flow. In order to achieve high separation rates in the simplest possible way it is provided that the preliminary separator (3) is arranged integrally with the main separator (4), with preferably the preliminary separator (3) and the main separator (4) forming a separator unit (2).

  • Patent number: 6928964
Abstract: A cylinder head for a liquid-cooled multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, with a cooling chamber configuration adjacent to a fire deck, which is partitioned by an intermediary deck essentially parallel to the fire deck into a lower cooling chamber in the direction of the cylinder axis, where lower and upper cooling chambers are flow-connected by at least one main transfer opening for each cylinder in the area of the side wall of the cylinder head and by at least one auxiliary transfer opening in the region of a preferably central opening for the insertion of a fuel injection device. At least one auxiliary transfer opening is configured as a recess in the insertion opening, and at least one first auxiliary transfer opening is located in at least one of the areas between intake passage and insertion opening and/or exhaust passage and insertion opening.

  • Patent number: 6899063
Abstract: A cylinder head for a multi-cylinder liquid-cooled internal combustion engine having a cooling chamber configuration adjacent to a fire deck which is divided by an intermediate deck essentially parallel to the fire deck into a lower cooling chamber next to the fire deck and an upper cooling chamber adjoining the lower one in the direction of the cylinder axis, the lower and upper cooling chamber communicating with each other via at least one first transfer opening, where at least one first transfer opening is provided in the area of an opening receiving a preferably centrally disposed fuel injection device, where at least one coolant inlet per cylinder (A,B,C), which is preferably located in the fire deck, opens into the lower cooling chamber, at least one coolant outlet departs from the upper cooling chamber, where a lower cooling chamber is associated with each cylinder (A,B,C), the lower cooling chambers of at least two adjacent cylinders (A,B,C) are essentially separated from each other by a partitioning
