  • Patent number: 4902064
Abstract: A tarp cover system for flat bed vehicles includes inverted U-shaped bow members that extend transversely of the vehicle, the lower ends of the leg portions of the bow members being connected with carrier devices by means of which the bow members are displaced longitudinally of the vehicle. The bow members carry a tarp cover member that covers and uncovers the vehicle bed when the bow members are displaced longitudinally between expanded and contracted conditions relative to the vehicle. Bump rails are provided that protrude at each side of the flat bed beyond the guide tracks in which the bow carrier devices are displaced, thereby to protect the guide tracks and carriers against damage, and also to permit connection of the load to the flat bed regardless of whether the cover is in the expanded load-covering condition, or the contracted load-exposing condition.

  • Patent number: 4740029
Abstract: A tarp cover system is disclosed for an open-topped truck or trailer container, including a tarp cover member adapted to overlie the container to close the chamber therein, the front end portion of the cover member being fastened with the external surface of the container front wall. The rear end portion of the cover is fastened to the transverse portion of a generally U-shaped normally-vertically-oriented inverted bow member that extends transversely above the container and includes downwardly directed leg portions that extend downwardly for pivotal connection with a longitudinally displaceable carrier arrangement, whereby the bow member is displaceable in opposite directions longitudinally of the container to cover and uncover the container chamber, respectively. When the bow member is in the rear container-uncovering position, it may be pivoted rearwardly and downwardly about the lower ends of its leg portions toward a generally horizontal cover-tensioning position in which it is secured by tie lines.

  • Patent number: 4657062
Abstract: A roll tarp system for covering the open top of a truck semi-trailer, characterized by the use of a novel roll bar construction in combination with an adjustable toggle clamp for locking the tarp in its closed unrolled condition. A rectangular tarp or cover member is connected at one longitudinal edge with the upper edge of one longitudinal side wall of the container. A roll bar is connected with the other longitudinal edge of the tarp via a first longitudinally extending peripheral groove contained in the roll bar. The roll bar includes at least one longitudinally slidable and positionable fastening device arranged in a second groove diametrically opposite the first groove, a cable member being fastened at one end to the fastening device.

  • Patent number: 4231606
Abstract: A delta stake arrangement adaptable for enclosing pickup truck beds of differing length and of differing layout of the stake pockets around the raised side walls of the truck bed. The arrangement includes a plurality of delta stakes having tapered bottom ends removably seated in the pockets. A plurality of brackets are provided each defining at least a lateral groove therein for receipt and support of a wall enclosure panel. Each bracket is further either formed integral with the delta stake or equipped with at least one dovetail ridge extending along a portion of the length thereof and being slidably received within a plurality of corresponding dovetail slots formed in the wide wall of each delta stake, these slots being parallel and extending along at least a portion of the length of each stake.

  • Patent number: 4067601
Abstract: An arrangement of stakes for supporting panels on a flat bed truck. Hollow stakes with bottom ends strengthened and enlarged by tapered jackets are mounted in pockets on the periphery of the bed. The stakes have triangular shaped cross sections with the corners being thickened. Some of the stakes have integral walls projecting therefrom which define grooves which receive and support the vertically extending ends of side panels for the truck bed. Tarpaulin rods are secured to the hollow top ends of the stakes which contain a longitudinal guide member for receiving said rods. One embodiment of the stake of the invention has basically a delta T configuration while another has a winged delta configuration.
