Abstract: In light colored surfactants produced by sulfonation of fatty acid alkyl esters with less than 2 moles of SO.sub.3 per mole of fatty acid alkyl ester and subsequent work-up of the crude sulfonate in aqueous medium to form salts, the content of .alpha.-sulfofatty acid disalts is regulated and reduced by transesterifying the sulfonation product before its treatment with an aqueous medium with at least about 0.5 mole equivalent of an alcohol, based on the SO.sub.3 which is not for .alpha.-sulfonation.

Abstract: Fatty acid polyoxyalkyl ester sulfonates obtained by reaction of C.sub.11 -C.sub.22 monounsaturated monocarboxylic acid polyoxyalkyl esters corresponding to the following general formulaC.sub.m H.sub.2m-1 --CO--(O--C.sub.n H.sub.2n).sub.x --OR (I)in whichR is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.22 alkyl radical or a C.sub.3 -C.sub.22 alkenyl radical,m has a value of 10, 15, 17, 19 or 21,n has a value of 2 or 3 andx has a value of 1 to 20,with sulfur trioxide and subsequent reaction of the sulfonated fatty acid polyoxyalkyl ester obtained with aqueous alkali metal salts. The sulfonates have high surface activity and favorable performance properties as surfactants.

Abstract: Long-chain hydroxyalkyl ether amines corresponding to the general formulaR.sup.1 --CHOH--CH.sub.2 --(O--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --).sub.X NR.sup.2 R.sup.3are suitable as wetting agents for textile products of all kinds and are distinguished by particularly low-foaming behavior. In the formula, R.sup.1 is a linear C.sub.6 -C.sub.22 alkyl group, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 independently of one another represent a linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl radical, and x is a number of 3 to 20.

R is a straight chain C.sub.10 -C.sub.22 alkenyl group, R.sup.1 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl group, n is an integer of from 2 or 4, and x is an integer of from 0 to 35. The products show a particularly long-lasting effect as external antistatic agents on polyamide fibers.

Abstract: Hydroxyalkyl polyethylene glycol and hydroxyalkyl polypropylene glycol ethers of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 is a linear C.sub.6 -C.sub.16 alkyl radical, R.sup.2 is a linear or branched, C.sub.1 -C.sub.22 alkyl or alkenyl radical, R.sup.3 is hydrogen or a methyl group, and n is a number of from 0 to 30, and to mixtures of several such compounds. Also, a process for the preparation of these hydroxy ethers, wherein epoxides are reacted with alcohol alkoxylates at an elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst and in an inert gas atmosphere. The compounds or their mixtures are used as foam inhibiting additives in low-foam cleaning preparations.

Abstract: Aqueous solutions of surface-active hydroxysulfonates are obtained by reaction of unsaturated fatty alkenyl or fatty alkenyl polyalkoxyl esters, for example of oleyl acetate or oleyl polyethoxyl acetate, with sulfur trioxide, introduction of the reaction product into aqueous alkali metal, alkaline-earth or ammonium hydroxide and heating of the solutions until the ester and sultone groups present have been hydrolyzed.

Abstract: In the production of washing-active .alpha.-sulfofatty acid esters by sulfonation of fatty acid alkyl esters with SO.sub.3 in molar ratios of up to 1:2 and more especially of from 1:1.2 to 1:1.8 and subsequent working-up of the crude sulfonic acid in aqueous medium with salt formation, aqueous pastes which are mobile, more especially pumpable, at moderately elevated temperatures are obtained by subjecting the crude sulfonate before the treatment with the aqueous medium to a post-reaction with at least about 0.5 mole equivalent, based on the SO.sub.3 which is not used for the .alpha.-sulfonation, of monohydric alcohols and/or alkoxylation products thereof at temperatures above 70.degree. C. and adjusting the solids contents of the .alpha.-sulfofatty acid ester salts to more than 35% by weight in the subsequent aqueous working-up step.

Abstract: Alkylaminopolyethylene glycol ethers corresponding to the following formula ##STR1## in which R represents a C.sub.6 -C.sub.20 alkyl or alkenyl radical, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different and represent a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl radical and the indices m and n are the same or different and represent a number of from 3 to 20, with the proviso that the sum of m and n is from 5 to 25, are suitable as foam inhibitors for detergent preparations. The foam inhibitors are stable to strong alkalis and strong acids and may be used in concentrations of from 10 to 2500 ppm.

Abstract: Hydroxyalkyl polyethylene glycol ethers corresponding to the formula ##STR1## in which X is R.sup.3 --CHOH--CHR.sup.4 --(OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.n --, R.sup.1 is a linear or branched C.sub.1-6 alkyl, R.sup.2 =R.sup.1 or X, R.sup.3 is a straight-chain C.sub.6-18 alkyl, R.sup.4 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1-8 alkyl, and and n is an average number of from 3 to 20, with the proviso that the sum of the carbon atoms in R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 is from 6 to 18, are suitable for depressing foam in detergent preparations.
