    Abstract: Digital image correlation is provided. The method comprises applying two or more unique X-ray attenuating patterns to a number of test samples and then applying physical deformation to the test samples. The test samples are irradiated concurrently with an X-ray source, and a path-integrated composite X-ray image is recorded that superimposes the unique X-ray attenuating patterns on each other. According to the path-integrated composite X-ray image, the method determines respective deformation of each of the unique X-ray attenuating patterns produced by the physical deformation of the test samples.

The present invention also relates to polymer blends comprising polylactide and water-soluble polymers. More particularly, the present invention relates to the use of grafted copolymers (PLA-grafted water-soluble polymers) for the compatibilization of PLA and water-soluble polymers. Such reactive compatibilization of immiscible polymer blends is achieved in such a way that main blend components are covalently bonded. In addition, such reactive compatibilization can be carried out by reactive extrusion.
