  • Patent number: 4462451
Abstract: A tire dismounting method and machine used in dismounting a tire from a rim. The machine has a frame which diametrically spans one side of the rim flange, and engages diametrically opposite portions of the rim flange to restrain movement of said machine axially of the rim, while the rim and tire assembly are supported freely on a surface. A ram is pivotally supported on the frame adjacent one end thereof for orientation of the ram with its axis generally parallel to the rim axis in operation. The ram has a piston with a presser shoe pivotally carried on its free end for movement in a travel path radially outwardly of and adjacent the rim flanges and generally parallel to the rim axis through a working stroke extending axially beyond the remote rim flange. The ram is supported such that the rim axis can move through a range of about 15.degree. from generally parallel to the rim axis to an acute angle intersecting the rim axis on the machine side thereof.

  • Patent number: 4425954
Abstract: The tire mounting tool for use in mounting a large, heavy off-highway pneumatic tire onto a dual-flanged single piece drop center wheel rim of the type having at each rim flange a re-entrant lip protruding radially inwardly toward the axis of the rim. The tool has a main frame adapted to be placed upon one side of the wheel rim when the rim is resting horizontally. The frame is longer than the inside diameter of the rim flange lip and slidably rests thereupon, and also slidably grips the rim lip and is bodily rotatable about the wheel axis. A pair of arms each are pivoted at their inboard ends to the main frame at a common pivot point for pivotal counter-rotational movement on opposite sides of the main frame about a pivot axis parallel to the rim axis. A pair of tire-bead-engaging shoes are carried one on each of the outboard ends of the arms. A pair of hydraulic rams are interconnected one between each of the arms and the main frame for counter-rotating the arms.

  • Patent number: 4365401
Abstract: A hydraulic rivet tool having a pair of opposing supports on a frame one of which holds an anvil and the other supporting a hydraulic cylinder. A hollow sleeve is extensible from the cylinder and carries a guide to clamp the workpiece. Contained within the sleeve for relative movement therewith is a dual purpose piston carrying a rivet engaging member. A spring is interconnected between the sleeve and the piston to restrict their relative motion until the sleeve guide has clamped the workpiece. Hydraulic fluid under pressure delivered to the cylinder first causes the piston and sleeve to extend from the hydraulic cylinder and causes the sleeve to clamp the workpiece. The piston then, overcoming the spring restricting the relative motion between it and the sleeve, continues its movement to perform work on the rivet.
