  • Patent number: 4443484
Abstract: The compound 3-(4-tolysulfonyl) acrylonitrile, when incorporated in meat products together with an alkali metal nitrite salt, has been found effective in inhibiting the growth of Clostridium botulinum and consequent production of toxin in meat products on storage.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 11, 1983
Date of Patent: April 17, 1984
    Assignee: Stauffer Chemical Company
    Inventor: Robert V. Dahlstrom
  • Patent number: 4254096
Abstract: An assay method suitable for antigens (or haptens) including proteins and polypeptides utilizing antibodies for the unknown protein or polypeptide in which the antibodies are covalently bound to water insoluble hydrophilic polymeric particles. Appropriate fluorescently labeled immune reactants are introduced during the method and together with the unknown antigen are immunologically bound, directly or indirectly, to the particles for separation from the reaction liquid. The particles have a size of about 0.1-10 microns and can be resuspended for direct measurement of the fluorescent labels in a fluorometer from which the unknown can be determined.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 4, 1979
Date of Patent: March 3, 1981
    Assignee: Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc.
Inventors: James F. Monthony, Michael W. Burgett, Robert V. Dahlstrom

  • Patent number: 3947564
Abstract: A method for determining serum thyroxine (T-4) in which the T-4 is first separated from the serum by adsorption onto a montmorillonite clay and then competitively bound by exogenous thyroxine binding globulin in the presence of a known amount of radioactive T-4. The competitively bound serum T-4 and radioactive T-4 is separated from the unbound serum T-4 and radioactive T-4 by passage through an ion exchange resin column. The serum T-4 concentration is determined by measuring the amount of bound radioactive T-4 and referring to a standard curve.

Date of Patent: March 30, 1976
    Assignee: Bio-Rad Laboratories
