Publication number: 20240029922Abstract: This application relates to a dispensed or injected structural reinforcement or hardening element, such as an injected internal strain relief, as incorporated into electrical cables. An electrical cable includes a cable portion comprising one or more electrical conductors that are positioned within an internal volume of the cable portion. Additionally, an electrical connector component is positioned at a terminating end of the cable portion. In addition, an internal strain relief element is positioned within the internal volume of the cable portion such that the internal strain relief element at least partially surrounds one or more of the electrical conductors, wherein the internal strain relief element comprises a cured injectable fluidic substance.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 20, 2022Publication date: January 25, 2024Inventors: Ronald G. POWERS, Robert V. WEBER

Publication number: 20240006821Abstract: Connector inserts and connector receptacles having a reduced number of individual parts and that can be manufactured with a reduced number of manufacturing steps and tools. An example provides connector inserts and connector receptacles having a reduced number of individual parts by including one or more parts that can be used more than once in each connector. In another example, connector inserts or connector receptacles can be formed with a reduced number of different manufacturing steps and tools.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2022Publication date: January 4, 2024Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Robert V. Braided electronic device cable, braiding machine and method for braiding an electronic device cable
Patent number: 11674245Abstract: This application relates to cable assemblies with an outer (exterior) layer formed from braiding materials together. To achieve a desired pattern, a machine tool forming the outer layer undergoes several modifications. For a machine tool with two tracks (e.g., inner and outer track) with multiple carriers of material to be braided, each carrier position may include multiple bobbins, with each bobbin carrying a spool/coil of the material. During a braiding operation performed by the machine tool, each track rotates in opposite directions. Moreover, some bobbins include an arm that guides the material in a particular manner. For example, during rotation of the track, the arm provides a swinging motion, causing the material carried by the arm to move in a periodic (e.g., sinusoidal) motion. An additional track may be used to guide the arms.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2021Date of Patent: June 13, 2023Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Robert V. Weber, Min Chul Kim, Jay E. Sha -

Patent number: 11201484Abstract: Accessory devices for portable electronic devices are herein described. An accessory device may include a receptacle used to receive and carry an electronic device. Further, the accessory device may include a cover that is pivotally coupled to the receptacle. The cover is designed to protect a front surface of the electronic device, including a cover glass. The accessory device may further include a power supply (such as a battery) that is located on the cover. The power supply is designed to provide power to the electronic device, and subsequently charge a battery of the electronic device. The power supply can also provide power to different devices. In this regard, the accessory device may include an inductive charging coil that can inductively charge a battery of a device located on the accessory device. The inductive charging coil can be integrated into the receptacle or the cover.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2019Date of Patent: December 14, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Robert V. Patent number: 8499694Abstract: A flechette has a forward body (20) containing its center of gravity which is connected to a tail section (24). The tail section has a pair of fins (24A, 24B) each having a preselected longitudinal angle and radial angle. When the two fins are viewed from the aft of the flechette, the pair of fins demonstrate a S-shaped orientation. The size, shape and orientation of the pair of fins provide aerodynamic stability to the flechette while allowing the flechette to be stacked with like-shaped flechettes. The two-piece assembly of the flechette easily accommodates the use of different density materials for the respective pieces.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2011Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: David A. Bittle, Robert V. Weber, Julian L. Cothran

Patent number: 8375860Abstract: A flechette has a forward section or body (12) containing its center of gravity. A quill (10) is connected to the forward section and is integrally connected to a pair of fins (15A, 15B) each having a longitudinal angle and a radial angle. When the two fins are viewed from the aft of the flechette, the pair of fins demonstrate an S-shaped orientation. The size, shape and orientation of the fins provide aerodynamic stability to the flechette while allowing the flechette to be stacked with like-shaped flechettes in rows and columns or in a radial, circular arrangement. When stacked in rows and columns or in a circular arrangement, each flechette has its nose oriented in the same forward direction.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2011Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: David A.
