  • Publication number: 20120319661
Abstract: An electrical generation system, including: a differential gearbox having an output drive, an input drive and a third drive which can be driven by or drive a load in use; a generator connected to and drivable by the output drive of the differential gearbox; a variable speed primary power source connected to the input drive of the differential gearbox; a regulating electrical machine which is operable as a motor and a generator connected to the third drive of the differential gearbox; at least one switch through which power is supplied to the electrical machine from the electrical output of the generator; and, a control system which monitors the electrical condition of the generator output.

  • Patent number: 7925470
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting an abnormality in e.g. in operating characteristics or function of a machine, apparatus or system, the method including providing a data sample set comprising n values of a measured physical parameter associated with the apparatus or system generated by repeating a measurement of the physical parameter n times. An extremal measured parameter value is selected from amongst the data sample set, determining a probability of observing the selected parameter value (e.g. of observing a value not exceeding the selected parameter value) by applying the selected parameter value to an extreme value probability distribution function having a location parameter and a scale parameter. The value of the location parameter and the value of the scale parameter are each constructed using an integer value m (e.g. notionally representing the size of a sub-sample data set comprising m of said measured parameter values) in which m is less than n (i.e. m<n).

  • Patent number: 6396437
Abstract: A microstrip antenna radiates and receives six beams in sequence out of a common aperture and processes return signals with common electronics in order to measure the velocity components relating to a backscattering surface. Sequentially, the first four beams are processed by measuring Doppler shift in a return signal while the last two beams are processed for time correlation. The result of the present invention is a combined time correlation and Doppler measurement velocity sensor available for operation over virtually all terrains and the vehicle speed range.

  • Patent number: 4941187
Abstract: Intercom apparatus having stereo amplifiers adapted for connection to one or more headsets. A plurality of headset output and microphone input connections are provided. Each microphone input includes a separate microphone switch and audio detector whereby only microphone inputs having voice audio thereon are activated. Stereo entertainment and aircraft radio audio inputs are provided. An aircraft radio audio detector is interfaced, along with the various microphone audio detectors, to entertainment partial mute circuitry whereby the presence of a voice or radio audio signal lowers the amplitude of the entertainment input. Microphone and aircraft radio partial mute circuitry are interfaced through a priority selector switch with respective microphone and radio signal detectors.

  • Patent number: 4160248
Abstract: A Doppler radar employing a common antenna for transmitting and receiving. A single sideband modulator (SSBM) is employed in the transmitting circuit to offset the rf reference frequency during transmit time and to discontinue offset during receiver ON time. Through a coupler and isolators an attenuated portion of the rf reference signal is applied to the receiver mixer at gated intervals. The output of the mixer are signals which are free of undesired reflected transmitter signals.

  • Patent number: 4158202
Abstract: A Doppler radar having a single sense Doppler signal from the rf mixer. A single sideband modulator in a common antenna system for transmitting and receiving shifts the fore and aft beams to achieve a single sense Doppler signal. The use of the single sideband modulator results in a differential Doppler shift between fore and aft beams of only a few hundred knots, thereby permitting use of low cost components. A single sense Doppler also reduces the Doppler passband by a 2:1 factor which permits the power supply frequency to operate at a higher frequency than the receiver.
