    Abstract: A mathematical sketching system enables a user to intuitively investigate the relationship between mathematical expressions and diagrams in a user-friendly manner. In one embodiment, a mathematical sketching system enables a user to input handwritten mathematical expressions and hand-drawn drawing elements, form associations between the mathematical expressions and the drawing elements, and view an animation of the drawing elements as their movements are displayed based on the mathematical expressions.
