Power-line communication systems AMD methods having location-extendable collector for end-point data
Patent number: 10270491Abstract: Power-line communication (PLC) systems collect information over power lines from end-point devices respectively associated with customer sites, for assessment by a central processing circuit operated on behalf of a power utility company. In the PLC system, each of a number of PLC data-collector circuits includes a plurality of data interface units and PLC end-point device data computation circuit. Typically, one data interface circuit is located proximate, and another is distal, the location of the computation circuit. Each data interface unit includes a transformer circuit for selectively receiving data from a subset of the end-point devices via the power lines, a transformer-coupling circuit for selectively sending data to the subset of the end-point devices via the power lines, and a high-throughput data driver circuit for outputting data in accordance with a data-transfer protocol which is common to the other high throughput driver circuits which operate in accordance with the data-transfer protocol.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2017Date of Patent: April 23, 2019Assignee: Landis+Gyr Technologies, LLCInventors: Stuart Haug, Damian Bonicatto, Rolf Flen, Robert Zeppetelle -

Patent number: 9106317Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure are directed toward a system that includes a plurality of endpoint devices. Each endpoint device can be configured and arranged to monitor a plurality of communication channels carried over power distribution lines for data communications. The endpoint can detect setup communications that contain an endpoint identifier (ID) matching the endpoint. The endpoint then stores or assigns the organization ID (obtained from the detected communications) to itself. The endpoint configures itself to respond to subsequent operational communications based upon the organization ID. A command center is configured and arranged to transmit setup communications to endpoint devices. The setup communications can include one or more endpoint identifiers and the organization ID. The command center can also transmit operational communications to the plurality endpoint devices, the operational communications including the organization ID.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2011Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: Landis+Gyr Technologies, LLCInventors: Roland Johnson, Damian Bonicatto, Robert Zeppetelle

Patent number: 9037305Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for detecting a power outage. In one aspect, a status request requesting a status of a portion of a power distribution network is received, where the request includes a reference to a power meter that is located within the portion of the network. In response to the status request, a block of communications channels is selected, where the block includes a target communications channel over which a signal corresponding to the referenced power meter is received. In turn, an amplitude of the signal being received over the target communications channel is obtained. A determination is made whether the amplitude of the signal is less than an outage threshold and a status notification is provided that specifies the status of the portion of the power distribution network for which the status has been requested.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2010Date of Patent: May 19, 2015Assignee: Landis+Gyr Technologies, LLCInventors: Stanley E. McHann, Jr., Robert Zeppetelle
