  • Patent number: 5263830
Abstract: A peristaltic pump assembly for pumping a fluid medium from a fluid source through a tubing having a compressible pumping section, which assembly comprises a housing including at least one support wall; a drive shaft journalled substantially loosely to the support wall; a plurality of cam plates eccentrically mounted on the drive shaft in a helical pattern along the drive shaft and rotatable together with the drive shaft for, during a rotation of the drive shaft, driving finger plates sequentially in a direction perpendicular to the drive shaft to cause respective finger tips of the finger plates to engage the pumping section thereby producing a moving zone of occlusion along the pumping section for pumping the fluid medium; and an adjustment mechanism mounted on the support wall for adjustably displacing the drive shaft together with the cam plates and the finger plates in a direction perpendicular thereto.

  • Patent number: 5190527
Abstract: An intravenous metering device is provided which includes an air retention chamber in downstream fluid communication with a source of fluid and in upstream fluid communication with a pumping chamber. A first valve is provided between the air retention chamber and the pumping chamber to control access to the pumping chamber. A second valve is provided to control the exit of fluid from the pumping chamber. The valves include a shared diaphragm portion. A safety mechanism as provided to prevent accidental free flow of fluid through the metering device. In a first preferred embodiment of a safety mechanism, a gradually tapered priming stem is provided attached to the diaphragm portion of the second valve. In a second preferred embodiment of a safety mechanism, a priming stem is provided attached to the diaphragm portion of the second valve and a priming stem release mechanism is further provided.

  • Patent number: 5032112
Abstract: The present invention provides an intravenous administration set 10 having a primary container 22 and a secondary container 24, each containing fluid, and a pump 20. The primary container 22 and secondary container 24 are joined into a single flow path by a Y-site 50. A check valve 42 is provided between the primary container 22 and the Y-site 50. A fluid capacitor 60 is provided on the single flow path between the Y-site 50 and the pump 20 to repenish displaced fluid in the pump 20.
