  • Patent number: 4915364
Abstract: A fluid suspension unit, particularly for heavy motor vehicles, comprising an outer cylinder and an inner cylinder slidably mounted within the outer cylinder, the outer and inner cylinders defining therein a chamber of variable volume containing hydraulic fluid and compressed gas. A diaphragm divides the chamber into two portions and has an opening therein which is normally closed by a mushroom valve. The upper portion of the chamber has a constant volume and a prefixed pressure and the lower portion has a variable volume and a variable pressure, lower or at most equal to that of the upper portion. The mushroom valve, normally closed, opens mechanically only when the suspension reaches a predetermined degree of compression that is when the pressure in the two portions of the chamber are the same. The valve is closed by gravity when the suspension returns to the same predetermined degree of compression.

  • Patent number: 4660851
Abstract: Rigid axles are anchored to the chassis of vehicles, provided with vertically movable suspensions secured to the chassis, by means of a reduced number of separate connection elements reacting to longitudinal thrust and braking torque, and by the use of rotary translating joints which, when appropriately combined, absorb the transverse thrust and permit all the movements required for the axle for its articulation. For each axle at least one of such joints is secured on one side to the base of the suspension and, on the other side, to the axle. The joint is constituted substantially by a rotatable pin coupled either to a rotary translating sleeve or to a fork rotating on a pin of the axle.

  • Patent number: 4603873
Abstract: A device for straight traveling stabilization and change of attitude on predetermined paths for vehicle axles, comprising a permanent elastic energy loading unit which exerts on the axle stabilizing forces of a greater intensity than the external forces acting thereon, a shifting actuator which, when operated, exerts on the axle forces of greater intensity than that of the stabilizing forces and thus causes it to be steered, and a shifting actuator control member which is actuated when there are variations in the traveling attitude of the main steering system of the vehicle. The device permits the axle to which it is applied to be kept in the normal condition of a fixed axle and permits it to render steering only when the main steering system of the vehicle is subjected to steering.

  • Patent number: 4591177
Abstract: An oleodynamic steering control device for vehicles having a straight traveling stabilizer, the device comprising a cylindrical member containing a reciprocatable or rotatable element connected to the main steering system and operative to generate a fluid pressure which is transmitted to a steering actuator on an axle to be steered. The device provides a fluid bypass to a reservoir for a certain range relative to the position corresponding to the straight traveling condition of the vehicle. This relieves the pressures generated by small deviations from straight traveling, which occur at relatively high speed, and thus they are not transmitted and multiplied on the steered axle which is thus stabilized, affording greater traveling safety.

  • Patent number: 4570971
Abstract: A suspension, particularly for coupled axles of industrial vehicles, comprising a first resilient center body acted upon by a pair of control arms carried by a pair of elements rotatably coupled to a center pin on the chassis of the vehicle, and second resilient lateral bodies formed of quarter elliptic springs supported by the rotatably coupled elements and having a degree of resiliency lower than that of the resilient center body so that in any loading condition the suspension will provide a certain degree of residual resiliency predetermined by design.

  • Patent number: 4460196
Abstract: A suspension system for coupled truck axles, comprising a pair of rigid arms each pivotally mounted at one end on a central pivot projecting from the truck frame and at the other end to one of a pair of axles. Each of the rigid arms has an upwardly projecting bracket portion for mounting therebetween resilient means adapted to be deformed by the oscilltions of the rigid arms about the central pivot to receive the load on the truck and compensate for differences in height between the pair of axles. One of the rigid arms on each side of the truck is designed to resist transverse thrust, whereas the other is to a limited extent movable in the transverse direction by means of ball joints.
