  • Patent number: 9014631
Abstract: A wireless media player and a related system and methodology are disclosed. One aspect of the wireless media player system pertains to a virtual connector system, apparatus, and method for the automatic establishment of wireless connectivity with other electronic devices. In one embodiment, the media player device employs the use of integrated Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to exchange communication settings, media capability, and other parameters with an external device that also has integrated RFID technology. The automatic exchange of settings and other information via a proximity-based RFID data exchange allows a media player to quickly establish a secure communication link with another device via a commonly supported wireless protocol such as Ultra Wideband (UWB) or Bluetooth. Another aspect of the media player system pertains to a method of using the captured media capability of the connecting device to customize certain menu options and software parameters in the media player.

  • Publication number: 20150100488
Abstract: A novel system, methodology and devices to conduct financial and other transactions using a wireless device with a near-field communication (NFC) module. Credentials may be selectively issued by issuers such as credit card companies, banks, and merchants to a mobile device permitting the consumer to conduct a transaction according to the authorization given as reflected by the credential or set of credentials. Such credentials can be stored in a mobile device, and can be accessed by an RF reader when the mobile device is within a predetermined range of the RF reader and one or more messages provided from the RF reader are able to launch a wallet application and select one or more corresponding credentials to be transmitted thereto to complete the transactions.

  • Publication number: 20150095175
Abstract: A novel system and methodology for conducting financial and other transactions using a wireless device. Credentials may be selectively issued by issuers such as credit card companies, banks, and merchants to consumers permitting the specific consumer to conduct a transaction according to the authorization given as reflected by the credential or set of credentials. The preferred mechanism for controlling and distributing credentials according to the present invention is through one or more publicly accessible networks such as the Internet wherein the system design and operating characteristics are in conformance with the standards and other specific requirements of the chosen network or set of networks. Credentials are ultimately supplied to a handheld device such as a mobile telephone via a wireless network. The user holding the credential may then use the handheld device to conduct the authorized transaction or set of transactions via, for example, a short range wireless link with a point-of-sale terminal.

  • Publication number: 20150046608
Abstract: To present multimedia data, a communication path is established through a selectively separable electrical connector over which encoded multimedia data are conveyed to a multimedia presentation device. An order for a multimedia data file is transmitted to a multimedia source device through a wireless communication interface that is selectively separable from the multimedia presentation device at the electrical connector. The multimedia data file is received over a wireless communication channel through the wireless communication interface upon successful completion of a financial transaction for payment of the multimedia data file. A processor that is selectively separable from the multimedia presentation device at the electrical connector encodes the multimedia data of the received multimedia data file into a format compatible with presentation capabilities of the multimedia presentation device.

  • Publication number: 20150007247
Abstract: Functionality of a multimedia presentation device is enhanced by establishing a communication path through an electrical connector that is selectively separable from the multimedia presentation device. Output streaming media are conveyed to the multimedia presentation device over the established communication path. A wireless communication channel is established over which input streaming media are received from a multimedia source device. Multimedia data of the input streaming media are stored in a memory that is selectively separable from the multimedia presentation device at the electrical connector. A processor, which is also selectively separable from the multimedia presentation device at the electrical connector, retrieves the multimedia data stored in the memory and the retrieved multimedia data are conveyed to the multimedia presentation device as the output streaming media on the communication path to the multimedia presentation device through the electrical connector.
