  • Patent number: 4470289
Abstract: An IC pin adjustment tool includes a pair of side arms and a center portion disposed between the side arms. The side arms are hingedly mounted on the center portion at one end thereof, and biased outwardly away from the center portion by spring means attached to the other end of the side arms. The center portion, and the portions of the side arms adjacent to the center portion, are configured such that an IC of either of two widths may be disposed on the associated one of two sides of the center portion such that the IC pins extend into gaps between the side arms and the center portion. By squeezing the side arms toward each other, the side arms force the pins toward the center portion to thereby adjust the orientation of the pins, such that they may immediately be inserted into an IC socket without further adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4372048
Abstract: A hand-held fiber cleaving tool has an elongate channel for receiving a fiber, a shroud for exposing a part of the fiber and a fiber cleaving unit including a cutting element rotative through the shroud about an axis parallel to and spaced from the channel longitudinal axis for generally sectoral cutting of the fiber. The tool further includes a fiber puller cooperating with a fiber clamping device to separate a portion of the fiber subsequent to cleaving. The clamping device is disposed on one side of the cleaved fiber portion and the fiber puller is disposed on the opposite side. The puller has selectively movable members adapted to grasp the fiber under manual operation and to pull the grasped portion in a longitudinal direction to separate it from the fiber portion held by the clamping device.

  • Patent number: 4249305
Abstract: An improved tool is disclosed for use in cleaving fiber optic elements preparatory to a splice for joining of two such fiber optic elements. The improved tool comprises support means having a longitudinal axis for supporting the fiber optic element therealong, grooving means for forming a groove in the surface of the fiber optic element, engagement causing means for causing engagement of the grooving means with the fiber optic element, and mounting means for mounting the grooving means to revolve about the longitudinal axis of the support means to circumferentially groove a fiber optic element about its entire circumference. The engagement causing means is movable between a first position in which the grooving means is adapted to engage the fiber optic element and a second position in which the grooving means is adapted to be spaced from the fiber optic element. Also, the engagement causing means is normally biased towards the first position.
