  • Patent number: 6631801
Abstract: A transport package for containing sample tubes and similar materials prone to leakage comprises a rigid, crush resistant tube e.g. wound from cardboard and having an integrally formed super-absorbent lining, the ends of the tube being closed by end caps. The transport package may be placed into a protective envelope comprising a closely fitting pouch for the package and a further pouch for accompanying documentation. Several such packages or packages in envelopes may be placed in a tertiary container comprising a tube forming a main body of the tertiary container. This tube may be divided into two sections, held together by a shrink fit band or outer covering. One end of the tube is formed with a permanent closure and the other end is closable by a lid having an inner rim with a lip that engages between the two sections of the tube.

  • Patent number: 5116551
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing an article, by covering at least a portion of a microwave heatable former with a liquid-containing material, applying microwave radiation to heat the former so as to leave a dry solid coating on the former, and effecting relative separation between the former and the dry solid coating so as to produce the article.

  • Patent number: 4371869
Abstract: To provide security against unauthorised crossing of a boundary, at least one fibre-optic wave-guide extends along the boundary. Light is directed into one end of the guide and the light leaving the guide is detected by an optical detector. An indication is given when the optical intensity of the detected light falls below a predetermined threshold, so as to warn when the wave-guide is disturbed significantly or cut through. The manufacture of a strip or strand incorporating a fibre-optic wave-guide and for use in a security system is also disclosed.
