  • Patent number: 4561526
Abstract: A steering and support handle for a wheeled luggage case is operatively pivotably connected to the wheeled luggage case to pivot to an operative or extended position in front of the case or to an inoperative or closed position adjoining the case. Means operative on the pivoted end of the handle biases the handle to maintain the operative position upon movement of the handle into the operative position and biases the handle to maintain the inoperative position upon movement of the handle into the inoperative position. The pivoted end of the handle is connected to the case by connecting means which provides a shoulder which is contacted by a surface on the pivoted end of the handle when the handle is moved to the operative position. The handle is T-shaped and its crossed end piece can be conveniently gripped in the hand of the user. The handle is preferably located in an indented marginal area at the closure location of the two opposed case halves or shells.

  • Patent number: 4433761
Abstract: A portfolio for an attache case or the like includes a front panel assembly defined by a portfolio frame and a backing panel. The portfolio frame is preferably formed from a single piece of molded material, such as plastic, having flexible but semirigid characteristics. A peripheral margin structure of the portfolio frame defines an interior opening through the frame, and the backing panel covers the interior opening. Article retention means extend from the peripheral margin structure into the interior opening. The article retention means cooperate with the backing panel to retain articles therebetween. The backing panel is attached to the portfolio frame preferably by ultrasonically deforming projections from the frame over openings in the panel. A pocket structure of the portfolio is preferably sewn to rearward extending skirt portions of the peripheral margin structure of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4274569
Abstract: A luggage case has one or more grooves in its sidewall. First and second mutually spaced mounting apparatus are affixed to the same sidewall. A vehicle mounted rack includes parts of such geometry and dimensions as to enable fitting receipt within the luggage case groove. First retention apparatus has an open groove within which the first luggage case mounting apparatus is slidingly received. Second retention apparatus is located spaced from the first and has a spring-loaded member for resiliently receiving the luggage case second mounting apparatus. The spacing and location of the various parts on the case and rack are such as to enable them to be simultaneously cooperatively engaged. In this manner, the luggage case is secured to the rack and preventing its movement in any direction. A key operated lock insures against theft of the case from the rack.
