  • Patent number: 6898996
Abstract: A flexible drive cable assembly for powered adjustable pedals includes an elongate flexible casing having a unitary connector which cooperates with an end fitting to secure the casing to the end fitting and hold the casing stationary relative to the end fitting. In one embodiment, the unitary connector and the end fitting form a snap-fit connection having both an interlock and an interference fit between the casing and the end fitting to reduce vibration. In another embodiment, the casing is heat staked to the end fitting such that casing material flows into grooves to form protrusions which interlock with the end fitting and an interference fit between the casing and the end fitting to reduce vibration. In another embodiment, the unitary connector includes an elongate portion press fit into an aperture of the end fitting and a flange engaging the end fitting adjacent the aperture.

  • Patent number: 6668680
Abstract: A flexible drive cable assembly for a powered adjustable seat, powered adjustable pedals or the like of a motor vehicle. The flexible drive cable assembly includes an elongate flexible core for transmitting movement from a first end of the core to a second end of the core and an elongate flexible casing encircling a longitudinal length of the core and having a unitary connector. A driving or driven element is operably connected to the core for transmission of movement therebetween. An end fitting is stationary relative to the driving or driven element and has an aperture for passage of the core therethrough. The unitary connector of the casing cooperates with the end fitting to secure the casing to the end fitting and hold the casing stationary relative to the end fitting. In one embodiment, the casing connector and the end fitting form a snap-fit connection to form an interlock between the casing and the end fitting and an interference fit between the casing and the end fitting to reduce vibration.

  • Patent number: 6264158
Abstract: A support structure for a vehicle seat assembly which allows the seat position to be adjusted forwardly or rearwardly with respect to the vehicle. The seat support structure is mounted to a vehicle structure and includes a first track, a second track, a torque tube and a brace member supported for movement relative to the first track with the seat bottom being supported on the second track for movement relative to the first track. A restraint bracket which is attached to the seat belt is adjacent the torque tube and second track without the necessity of fasteners. The restraint bracket mounting allows a force to be transfered to the associated torque tube, first track, and second track. The present invention further provides a method of seat assembly in which the torque tube is maintained under compression and the brace member under tension to provide a rigid, integral seat support structure.

  • Patent number: 6179265
Abstract: A vehicle seat assembly includes a seat back supported with respect to a seat bottom and is attached to the vehicle by a mounting assembly. The mounting assembly has an inboard track assembly and an outboard track assembly that are both mounted to a vehicle structure with the track assemblies being spaced apart from one another. Each track assembly includes a first track and a second track supported for movement relative to the first track. The first and second tracks are preferably mounted in a vertical configuration. The seat bottom is supported on the second track for horizontal movement with the second track as seat position is adjusted. A single drive mechanism is supported on one of the inboard or outboard track assemblies. The drive mechanism includes a single drive member that is mounted between the inboard and outboard track assemblies. A truss structure extends between the inboard and outboard track assemblies to provide structural support for the seat assembly as seat position is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 6168235
Abstract: A vehicle seat assembly includes a seat bottom and a seat back supported for pivotal movement relative to the seat bottom such that seat back position can be adjusted to a variety of reclined positions with respect to the seat bottom. The seat includes a manual or electrical actuator which provides input to a control assembly that pivots the seat back with respect to the seat bottom. The control assembly includes an epicycloide gear mechanism with a first gear supported on the first seat member and a second gear supported on the second seat member. The second gear has a plurality of gear teeth that selectively mesh with a plurality of gear teeth on the first gear. The first gear teeth have a non-epicycloide tooth profile and the second gear teeth have an epicycloide tooth profile. An input member defines an axis of rotation and provides rotational input to the second gear. The input member is an eccentric input shaft having a geometric center that is spaced apart from the axis of rotation.

The seat assembly is mounted to a vehicle structure and includes a first track and a second track supported for movement relative to the first track with the seat bottom being supported on the second track for movement with the second track. An actuator selectively controls the movement of the second track with respect to the first track. The assembly also includes at least one torque tube for providing vertical seat adjustment. The torque tube presents a bearing surface for rotatably supporting a bearing surface located on the second track.

A single locking mechanism is supported on one of the inboard or outboard track assemblies. The locking mechanism moveable between a locked position where the locking mechanism maintains the second track in a selected position relative to the first track and an unlocked position where the second track is moves with respect to the first track to a desired seat position.

  • Patent number: 6021990
Abstract: A seat adjustment assembly for driving a vehicle seat forwardly and rearwardly within a cab of a vehicle includes a pair of lead screws which are driven by cables from a single motor. The lead screws engage a nut runner, and the nut runner is fixed to the lower track. The lead screws are fixed to the upper track, and when the lead screws rotate, the nut runner causes the lead screw to move axially. This thus causes the upper track relative to the lower track, and move the seat. The adjustment assembly is a modular unit which can be attached as an pre-assembled to the remainder of the vehicle seat. The housings incorporated into this arrangement are staked together, such that separate retaining members such as bolts are eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5988581
Abstract: A power seat positioning device for automatically adjusting the horizontal fore and aft position of a seat within a vehicle using a single electric motor. A lower track assembly is attached to a vehicle floor and includes a first and second laterally spaced lower track members. An associated upper track assembly attaches to a vehicle seat and includes a first and second upper track member which slide within the first and second lower track members respectively to adjust the for and aft position of the seat within the vehicle. A drive motor and gearbox arrangement is supported on the first upper track to provide the motive force which drives only the first upper track relative to the first lower seat track. A brace member directly connects the first upper track to the second upper track to coordinate the horizontal position of the first upper seat track with the position of the second upper seat track.

  • Patent number: 5349878
Abstract: A mechanism used to control the vertical height as well as fore-aft position of a vehicle seat while presenting a minimum height profile when adjusted to minimum vertical elevation. The seat is connected to a pair of rails, one stationary and one reciprocable. A seat is affixed to an attachment bracket which is connected to the reciprocable rail by a vertical height adjuster comprising a vertically oriented screw jack which may be positioned to selectable heights by a motor. The fore-aft relationship of the rails may also be selectively adjusted by a motor driving a horizontally oriented screw jack. Both screw jacks incorporate a screw connected to a helical gear engaged to a worm gear. The worm gear is driven by a remote motor through a flexible drive cable. Both screw jacks present a structure which offers a minimum height profile when the seat is positioned at minimum vertical height.
