  • Patent number: 4361178
Abstract: An improved tire protection chain (14) is disclosed which comprises a plurality of flat metal rings (16) disposed in a staggered pattern over the tread surface of the tire. Means (18) are provided for joining the rings into a flexible mesh, this means comprising at least one flat, oblong chain link (20, 22) oriented so that one of its long sides (30) faces toward the tire surface and the other of its long sides (28) faces away from the tire surface. Attached to the side of the chain link which faces away from the tire surface is at least one traction stud (36, 38, 40). The central opening of the oblong chain link is configured so that rotation of the oblong chain link is limited relative to adjacent links or rings.

  • Patent number: 3994127
Abstract: An improvement is disclosed in connector devices such as those comprising connector links for use with chain and cable. Two mating end pieces are provided such as chain half-links, each having a transverse bore therein to receive a connecting pin. The connecting pin has a diameter slightly less than that of the bore in the end pieces so that the end pieces are freely rotatable about the pin and relative to each other. Each end of the pin is chamfered and a split-ring collar is provided for each end of the pin so that once the pin is inserted through the aligned bores in the end pieces, the split-ring collars can be driven onto the respectively opposite ends of the pin to hold the pin in place.

  • Patent number: RE28898
Abstract: This product is a traction assembly designed primarily for heavy-duty vehicles, and comprises a chain assembly of unidirectionally distorted links in combination with rings connecting the same, and side chains holding the assembly securely upon the vehicle tire; the links of the traction portion having projecting lugs upon the outward face thereof, wherein the interaction of the rings and chains maintains the assembly in position for maximum contact of the lugs with the surface of the terrain.
