  • Patent number: 4466997
Abstract: A method for maintaining and/or repairing a protective coating on the surfaces of at least one component in a high temperature zone of an engine during operation thereof wherein selected additives are employed in the engine's fuel.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 6, 1982
Date of Patent: August 21, 1984
    Assignee: Great Lakes Carbon Corporation
    Inventor: Roger Prescott
  • Patent number: 4461159
Abstract: The wall of an oxidizing chamber for the continuous thermal oxidative stabilization of organic fibers which undergo exothermic reaction during treatment thereof possesses high thermal conductance and has an internal surface of high total normal emissivity to absorb heat from the fibers generated by the exothermic oxidation reaction.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 30, 1983
Date of Patent: July 24, 1984
    Assignee: Great Lakes Carbon Corporation
    Inventor: Roger Prescott
  • Patent number: 4413860
Abstract: Method of manufacture of discs of fiber-reinforced composite comprising layers of segments with axial and circumferential fiber alignment for superior stiffness and resistance to radial and circumferential stresses in the plane of the disc.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 26, 1981
Date of Patent: November 8, 1983
    Assignee: Great Lakes Carbon Corporation
    Inventor: Roger Prescott
  • Patent number: 3989802
Abstract: Carbon fibers are surface oxidized by contacting the fiber with an aqueous solution comprising 5 - 20 weight percent sodium dichromate and 15 - 45 percent sulfuric acid for from one to sixty minutes at about the boiling point of the mixture. These fibers are useful in making resin-based composites by improving the adhesion between the fibers and the resin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 21, 1973
Date of Patent: November 2, 1976
    Assignee: Great Lakes Carbon Corporation
Inventors: Louis A. Joo, Roger Prescott, Gordon E. Sharpe, Frank E. Snodgrass
