  • Patent number: 10742357
Abstract: In a method for generating a data unit conforming to a first communication protocol, a first field and a second field to be included in a preamble of the data unit are generated. The first field includes a first set of one or more information bits that indicate a duration of the data unit and is formatted such that the first field allows a receiver device that conforms to a second communication protocol to determine the duration of the data unit. The second field includes a second set of one or more information bits that indicate to a receiver device that conforms to the first communication protocol that the data unit conforms to the first communication protocol. The first field and the second field are modulated using a modulation scheme specified for a field corresponding to the first field and the second field, respectively, by the second communication protocol.

  • Patent number: 10720978
Abstract: Methods and systems include reducing or mitigating interference by sweeping multiple beams used to communicate between a wireless network base station and an electronic device. The multiple beams include beams having different sidelobe directions. The electronic device selects, using a processor of the electronic device, a beam from the multiple beams. Furthermore, selecting the beam includes selecting the beam having a lowest level of interference of the multiple beams due to a sidelobe direction of the beam. The electronic device then communicates with the wireless network base station using the selected beam.

  • Publication number: 20200178261
Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with wireless circuitry and control circuitry. The wireless circuitry may communicate using a 5G New Radio (NR) protocol. The wireless circuitry may have multiple bandwidth part configurations. The control circuitry may place the wireless circuitry in a first bandwidth part configuration where a first bandwidth part of a first component carrier is active and a second bandwidth part of a second component carrier is inactive. The control circuitry may switch the wireless circuitry from the first bandwidth part configuration to a second bandwidth part configuration in which the first bandwidth part is inactive and the second bandwidth part is active. The first and second component carriers may be intra-band contiguous, intra-band non-contiguous, or inter-band. The control circuitry may switch the wireless circuitry into other configurations for covering other bandwidth parts of any desired component carriers in any desired bands.

  • Patent number: 10660085
Abstract: Communicating wireless devices collaborate and utilize waveforms to enable secure channel estimation. To protect against a repetitive replay attack, some embodiments include Single Carrier Physical Layer (SC-PHY) waveforms and/or interpolated OFDM waveforms that do not include a repeatable or predictable structure. The waveforms are transmitted in ranging packet structures that are compatible with legacy 802.11 technologies that do not utilize secure channel estimation. The ranging packets are received in combination with the information previously exchanged to enable the receiving wireless system to securely determine a channel estimate (e.g., determine a channel estimate without an interloper transmission that is not an authentic first arrival path in a multi-path channel between the wireless systems). Thus, one or both of the wireless systems can estimate the distance between them (or range). Devices utilizing legacy 802.

  • Publication number: 20200145998
Abstract: Methods and systems include beamformed wireless communications to and from a user equipment electronic device. During operation of the user equipment electronic device, a change in slot aggregation is made. Using the aggregated slots, the user equipment electronic device and/or a wireless network utilize beam sweeps to determine a best beam pairing by repeating a shared channel in the aggregated slots with a beam sweep of multiple beams between the user equipment electronic device and the wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20200145927
Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling uplink (UL) transmission power of a user equipment (UE) electronic device includes determining, using the UE electronic device, that a maximum power availability for a transmission between the UE and a wireless network node is not appropriate to current conditions. Based on the determination that maximum power availability is not appropriate the UE electronic device sends a request to the wireless network node to reduce power for communication with the wireless network node. Based on the request, the UE electronic device communicates at a reduced power level for communications with the wireless network node.

  • Publication number: 20200145090
Abstract: Systems and methods related to partial beam correspondence may be used to address potential limitations of beamforming wireless networks. A user equipment electronic device and/or wireless network identifies a subset of available transmitter beams for the user equipment electronic device that are indicated as similar to a downlink reference signal received at the user equipment electronic device from a wireless network node. The user equipment electronic device sweeps the subset of available transmitter beams for communication with the wireless network node and uses a best beam from the sweep to communicate with the wireless network node.

  • Publication number: 20200100118
Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with wireless circuitry and control circuitry. The wireless circuitry may include a phased antenna array. Sensors and other circuitry in the electronic device may generate sensor data such as accelerometer data, gyroscope data, magnetometer data, location data, and spatial ranging data. The wireless circuitry may establish and maintain one or more wireless links with external devices based on the sensor data as the device moves over time. For example, the wireless circuitry may perform physical layer beam adjustments, inter-radio access technology handovers, intra-radio access technology handovers, and/or dual connectivity adjustments based on the sensor data. This may allow the device to maintain one or more wireless links without having to sweep the signal beam of the phased antenna array over its entire field of view each time the device has moved.
