  • Patent number: 8281640
Abstract: A check weight (1) that is used to check a gravimetric measuring instrument, specifically a balance, or to check a further weight, is provided with a means of identification. This marking which is applied on the outside surface of the check weight includes a permanently affixed machine-readable identification code (2) which makes the specific weight piece individually recognizable. This opens the possibility for a method whereby an individually identifiable check weight can be traced back in time. A system for tracing check weights back in time includes one or more reader devices (6) that serve to record the marking, one or more processors (10) wherein the machine-readable identification code can be converted back into an identification code that can be electronically processed, and one or more data storage units, in particular a database (8) serving to store at least the data contained in the identification code.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 29, 2009
Date of Patent: October 9, 2012
    Assignee: Mettler-Toledo AG
Inventors: Holger Haussmann, Roland Nater, Patrick Von Arx, Hans Joerg Burkhard, Michael Greuter

  • Patent number: 6784380
Abstract: A sample changer for a balance (1) with a weighing pan (18) has at least two sample carriers (3) that are spaced apart from each other. Each sample carrier is configured to receive at least one weighing-object unit and transport the weighing-object unit to the weighing pan (18). An individual draft-shield element (4) consisting at least in part of a transparent material is arranged above each of the sample carriers (3), closing off a sample space laterally and from above.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 31, 2004
    Assignee: Mettler-Toledo GmbH

  • Patent number: 6420666
Abstract: In a method of weighing a load on a balance (1), the load is passed between three different locations, i.e., a stationary holding location (17), a load-handling device, and a load-receiver portion of the balance. At least one of the locations has vertically stacked load-receiving positions. The load receiving positions are horizontally cantilevered forks or beams on which the weighing loads are either set down or suspended.
