The method also includes sending the set-top box application to the set-top box device after determining that the processing system of the set-top box device can support execution of the set-top box application.

The method includes discovering a first device associated with a first location, determining available data from the first discovered device, and inserting a listing for the first discovered device into an electronic program guide (EPG). A data structure in memory is disclosed that includes a device identifier field for containing data indicating an identifier for a discovered device, a name field for containing data indicating a name associated with the discovered device, a receiver available field for containing data indicating a data receiver is available for the discovered device location, an electronic program guide (EPG) field for containing data indicating an EPG and an EPG2 field for inserting listings for discovered device data into the EPG for display to a user at an STB. A system is disclosed for near real time data communication is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting notification messages is disclosed. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a system having a storage element that stores contact information for one or more messaging devices of one or more parties associated with an end user, a detection element that detects an emergency call initiated by the end user, and a transmission element that transmits a notice associated with the detected emergency call to at least one among the one or more messaging devices. An example method includes receiving media content including triggers at a consumer location, determining that the media content includes triggers, presenting an indicator, receiving a request to activate the trigger, and performing an action associated with the trigger. Example actions include initiating a voice enabled telecommunication session, initiating a recording of the media content at a video recorder, initiating a playback of media content at a video recorder, and subscribing to a service.

Abstract: A method is provided that includes transmitting a video stream to a set-top box. The video stream may include a targeted advertisement with a user selectable indicator to identify supplemental video content related to the targeted advertisement based on a subscriber profile associated with the set-top box. The method further includes receiving a request from the set-top box based on the user selectable indicator and transmitting the supplemental video content to a memory of the set-top box independently from the video stream and without interrupting display of the video stream.

The method also includes receiving video content of a targeted advertisement at the set-top box device from the video server with the video content of the television programming, where an advertisement server of the IPTV system selects the targeted advertisement based on a customer profile associated with an identifier of the set-top box device. The method also includes recognizing an advertisement insertion point in the video content of the television programming. The method also includes inserting the video content of the targeted advertisement into the video content of the television programming at the advertisement insertion point.

Abstract: A television content provider can reserve and use a television channel can be used to provide interactive content to a user device. Unlike conventional broadcast channels, a user at the user device may view content to an extent (length, depth, or both) that the user desires. The user can pick and choose content to view, may drill down to whatever level of detail that the user desires, contact an originating source of the content, interact with the content in another manner, or the like. Unlike the Internet, the content can be customized for transmission over a television channel, which may allow higher quality and potentially a larger array of content than may otherwise be provided over the Internet. The transmission may be performed over a private network, so that security concerns are reduced.

Abstract: A system and method of providing television program recommendations is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, the method includes receiving a user review of a television program from a set-top box device via an access network of an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) system. The method also includes associating the user review with a user of the set-top box device. The method also includes receiving a request for programming recommendations from the set-top box device and generating a recommendation list that includes at least one recommended program.

The virtual multicasting may be performed according to a method of virtual multicasting multicast content on non-multicast enabled networks, comprising the steps of determining if an attached network is multicast enabled, if the attached network is not totally multicast enabled, querying for virtual multicast requests for the multicast content from non-multicast enabled client computers, listening for virtual multicast requests, and determining, based on the virtual multicast requests, which client computers request the multicast content, from the unicast addresses, and the requested methods of delivery for the multicast content.

The longitudinal edge of the second oil-deflecting plate forms a main oil scraper edge. Strip-shaped ribs are arranged between the oil-deflecting plates, in their overlapping region, for the purpose of guiding oil in the direction of a suction point of the oil pan. The first oil-deflecting plate has apertures in the region of the width of a respective crank assembly assigned thereto. These apertures serve as secondary oil scraper edges.

The multiple advertising includes a package of a plurality of advertisements and the high-bandwidth content is of a form chosen from a list consisting of: video, audio, text, and a combination thereof. The method and apparatus customize the multiple advertising by evaluating a correlation between each of the advertisements of the multiple advertising and the displayed high-bandwidth content or a user profile of a user at the client and ranking each advertisement of the multiple advertising based on the correlation of each advertisement and the displayed high-bandwidth content or the user profile.

Abstract: A method and system for providing a branded channel that includes branded channel content that is relevant to a brand is disclosed. The branded channel content may include high bandwidth content and is preferably delivered via a communication medium to a client computer, such as a home computer or an interactive kiosk. An embodiment of the method of providing a branded channel preferably includes delivering the branded channel via a communication medium, displaying the branded channel content, whereby the displaying step displays branded channel content with links to other content, the other content including a first progressive marketing opportunity, and displaying the first progressive marketing opportunity. The first progressive marketing opportunity is a marketing opportunity that is related to the displayed branded channel content.
