  • Patent number: 7853119
Abstract: An apparatus (16) for recording a selected program includes a decoder (32), a recorder (34), and a user interface (36). The user interface (36) permits a user to select the program. The decoder (32) receives a data stream including, a start data packet, content data packets, and an end data packet associated with the selected program. The decoder (32) detects the start data packet associated with the selected program and begins the recorder (34) recording. The context data packets are recorded until the decoder (32) detects the end data packet associated with the selected program and stops the recorder (34).

  • Publication number: 20080304810
Abstract: A device (1800) for processing an input data stream comprising a sequence of input frames, wherein the device (1800) comprises a processing unit (1802) for generating an output data stream as a trick-play stream comprising a sequence of output frames based on the input data stream and based on a predetermined replication rate, and a timing unit (1803) for assigning timing information to the output frames, said timing information being based on timing information of the sequence of input frames.

  • Publication number: 20080196057
Abstract: The invention describes an apparatus, system and related method that allow a guest user to create a private personal virtual channel. The apparatus includes a user interface (8) whereby an authorized apparatus user can make an invitation to a guest user. The authorized apparatus user can also set expiry conditions (19). The apparatus can exchange guest user specific data (2, 3, 4) via user interface (8), via a data carrier (18), or via a network (17) with an equivalent apparatus in the system. The private user specific data (2, 3, 4) is concealed using a concealment unit (14). A control unit (13) works in combination with a processing unit (11) and the concealment unit (14) to conceal recorded content based upon guest user preferences and presents the concealed recorded content to the guest user alone as a continuous sequence of content via display (15) emulating a traditional broadcasted channel.

  • Publication number: 20080167994
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device of enabling inheritance of a digital content item. There is provided a method and a device by which inheritance of a digital content item is enabled by means of acquiring an inheritance license for an encrypted digital content item. The inheritance license specifies operations that are allowed to be performed on the content item after the death of its proprietor. Further, a death certificate of the proprietor of the encrypted content item is accessed, wherein authorization is given to perform at least a subset of the operations specified in the inheritance license on the encrypted content item.
