  • Patent number: 4930359
Abstract: An apparatus for preparing samples taken from a flow of bulk material for the purposes of determining representative chemical and/or physical characteristics of the sampled material. The sampled material is removed in the form of a mix of fine and coarser particles of dust from the flow of bulk material by way of a suction conduit. The sample-preparing apparatus is positioned at a spacing from the intake opening of the suction conduit and at a spacing from the flow of bulk material, and comprises a first housing accommodating a first hollow strainer and a second housing downstream of the first housing and accommodating a second hollow strainer. Outside the second strainer, the second housing is communicated with a reduced pressure source for producing the suction effect to transport the dust particles of the sampled material through the two housings and, insofar as the grain size of the dust particles permits, also through the two strainers.

  • Patent number: 4558752
Abstract: Device for obtaining dust from minerals. The device has an excitation part for mechanical ultrasonic vibrations combined with a chisel. A suction device is provided to collect the dust produced. The device serves in particular to produce dust samples rapidly for quick analysis of minerals in prospecting, in the reconnaissance and evaluation of deposits and in the mining of minerals for the purposes of quality control, monitoring and controlling the mining process.

  • Patent number: 4502951
Abstract: Suction device for obtaining dust samples of nearly homogeneous grain sizes and with a reproducible bulk density for the analysis of ores. The device, which is suitable for use during the mining of ores, includes a cylindrical casing, having an opening at each end thereof, and a cylindrical sieve insert, having an opening at each end thereof and being coaxially located within the casing. An inwardly-facing conically-shaped insert, located at the front end of said casing, provides flow communication between the front end of the casing and the sieve insert. A suction pipe socket is located laterally on the casing for attachment to suction-generating equipment. A filter is located over the mouth of the conically-shaped insert. The front end of a downwardly-curved dust-conducting tube is in direct communication with the back end of the sieve insert. There is a tube for collecting samples from the dust-conducting tube.

  • Patent number: 4482864
Abstract: Process for the determination of the magnetite and phosphorus contents of magnetite-containing ores. A sample of dust which has been produced artificially or obtained as byproduct is collected and placed in an electromagnetic field. The magnetite content of the dust sample is determined from changes in the magnetic flux or the relative permeability. Subsequently the phosphorus content of the total dust sample mass is determined. Also the total dust sample mass is likewise determined from changes in the magnetic flux or the relative permeability. The dust sample is preferably dried prior to measuring the change in the magnetic flux or the relative permeability. Equipment for carrying out the process includes a coil system having at least one measuring coil for determining the magnetite content. The core of the measuring coil forms a tube which has a minimum filling height that exceeds the length of the coil.

  • Patent number: 4441616
Abstract: Process for sorting coarse to fine materials according to their chemical composition, in which samples are taken and analyzed, and in which the transporting and/or further processing of the materials is controlled according to the results of the analysis. The samples are taken in the form of an air swirled mixture of coarse dust and fine dust (i.e., particles with grain sizes of less than 200 .mu.m) which is obtained as a by-product or is produced artificially. The coarser dust is separated from the mixture. All of the fine dust or a fraction thereof is analyzed.
