Abstract: The invention relates to a method in which the output of a multimode user interface is optimized according to the currently used input procedure or the currently used input device, thus allowing pictograms to be displayed on a screen during manual input, for example, said pictograms then being replaced by texts visualizing spoken commands when switching to voice input. The output is thus kept as concise as possible and as detailed as necessary at any time, resulting in increased comfort for the user. The multimode user interface is suitable for vehicle cockpits, personal computers, and all types of mobile terminals.
