  • Patent number: 10194633
Abstract: A control arrangement for controlling movement of animals, with at least two smart gate arrangements and a same number of enclosed transit areas, wherein smart gate arrangement includes an entrance through which animals can enter, an animal identifier identifies each animal entering the smart gate arrangement, and three separate exits, through which each animal can be selectively guided to exit the smart gate arrangement after having been identified, and wherein each transit area is provided with a first one of the exits of a first one of the smart gate arrangements and an entrance of a neighboring second one of the smart gate arrangements with an unobstructed pathway therebetween contained within the transit area, the plurality of enclosed transit areas being interconnected via the smart gate arrangements such that an animal can be guided through the at least two smart gate arrangements via the transit areas in a circulating manner.

  • Patent number: 9675253
Abstract: A method and arrangement for determining a gut fill level of the rumen of an animal uses a three-dimensional camera and an image processing system. The three-dimensional camera is located in a station, wherein the animal is forced to stand essentially still during recording of the three-dimensional image. The three-dimensional camera is located on the left side of the animal at a height above the rumen triangle of the animal, longitudinally in essence in level with the rumen triangle, and is directed downwards towards the rumen triangle during the image recording. The image processing system automatically determines a depth and/or volume of a convexity or concavity of the rumen triangle, and determines the gut fill level of the rumen of the animal based on the determined depth and/or volume.

  • Publication number: 20130112143
Abstract: A method for control of milking of animals permitted to move within an area including at least one grazing paddock wherein the animals graze, a milking area located remote from the grazing paddock, and a raceway via which animals in the grazing paddock access the milking area, the milking area including a milking system for milking the animals that access the milking area. The animals that access the milking area via the raceway are counted in at least one position located remote from the milking system, a future amount of animals in the milking area is predicted based on the animals counted in the at least one position located remote from the milking system, and the operation of the milking system or other arrangement in the area is controlled in a manner and at a point of time based on the predicted future amount of animals in the milking area.

  • Publication number: 20130098295
Abstract: An arrangement for control of milking of animals permitted to move in an area that includes a milking area with an automatic milking system, the arrangement including at least one animal identification device for identifying the animals entering the milking area, and a process and control device operatively connected to the animal identification device. The process and control device determines, for each of the identified animals, an expected milk yield obtainable in milking that animal, determines repeatedly an accumulated expected milk yield obtainable in milking the identified animals based on the expected milk yields of the identified animals, and initiates a milking session depending on the repeatedly determined accumulated expected milk yield.

  • Patent number: 8425434
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring the condition of animals provides for current height and weight measurements taken from an animal in order to automatically derive a height-to-weight ratio. The height-to-weight ratio thus obtained may be used to determine whether or not an animal's overall physical condition lies inside tolerance limits in relation to its predetermined expected development. An apparatus for implementing the method of the invention may include a control system configured to determine the height-to-weight ratio and may within a control system of an animal installation. The supply of feed to an animal may be adjusted in response to a deviation of its measured height weight ratio from a target or benchmark value.

  • Patent number: 8245664
Abstract: A method and installation for automatically determining the readiness of an animal for being weaned off liquid feed and onto dry feed. The height of an animal in an animal installation is automatically measured using a height measurement system at a selected location within the installation. A suitable location within an installation for providing a height gauge may include a feeding station, a cleaning station or other treatment station of an animal. Additional parameters may be used for the determination of readiness to wean in combination with dry feed consumption rate, such as animal age, weight or other animal dimensions. In determining the height, the method may include making a determination of the overall physical condition of the animal and may include a determination of the height-to-weight-ratio of an animal. The installation may include an automatic animal weighing system. Measured values may be stored in a control system memory for monitoring the growth of individual animals.
