Patent number: 11908114Abstract: A method and a system for processing an image and transform it into a high resolution and high-definition image using a computationally efficient image transformation procedure is provided. The transformation of the image comprises first transforming the image, also referred to as an intensity image, into a layered distance field (DF) image comprising an ordered sequence of multiple layers. Each layer in the ordered sequence is associated with a DF procedure and a set of rules for mapping the DF values to intensity values of the respective layer. The result of applying the DF procedures to each location in the intensity image is a transformed intensity image, which is of high definition and high resolution. The application of the DF procedures is governed by a stopping criteria based on error values between the intensity image and a reconstructed intensity image.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2021Date of Patent: February 20, 2024Assignee: Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Ron Perry

Publication number: 20230186430Abstract: A method and a system for processing an image and transform it into a high resolution and high-definition image using a computationally efficient image transformation procedure is provided. The transformation of the image comprises transforming a received intensity image into a layered distance field (DF) image including an ordered sequence of multiple layers. Each layer of the layered DF image includes a DF procedure defining DF values at all locations of the received intensity image and rules for mapping these DF values into intensity values of the layer. The intensity image is transformed iteratively until an error between the received intensity image and an intensity image reconstructed from the layered DF image by combining the intensities values of each level in their corresponding order is less than a threshold error value.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2021Publication date: June 15, 2023Applicant: Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Ron Perry

Patent number: 11557066Abstract: A method and a system for processing an image and transform it into a high resolution and high-definition image using a computationally efficient image transformation procedure is provided. The transformation of the image comprises receiving an intensity image and generating an application programming interface (API) call for transforming the received intensity image. The API call is then transmitted to an image processing server for transforming the intensity image into a layered distance field (DF) image. Further, a response is received from the image processing server, wherein the response comprises one or more functions for obtaining the layered DF image.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2021Date of Patent: January 17, 2023Assignee: Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Ron Perry

Patent number: 11544882Abstract: A method and a system for processing an image and transform it into a high resolution and high-definition image using a computationally efficient image transformation procedure is provided. The transformation of the image comprises receiving, at a first input interface, a layered distance field (DF) image including an ordered sequence of multiple layers. Each layer of the layered DF image includes a DF procedure defining DF values at all locations of the received intensity image and rules for mapping these DF values into intensity values of the layer. The transformation of the image further comprises, receiving, at a second input interface, a transformation instruction and transforming the layered DF image based on the transformation instruction.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2021Date of Patent: January 3, 2023Assignee: Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Ron Perry

Publication number: 20190344596Abstract: A system and method for forming indicia on a substrate. The system includes a feed system for feeding the substrate and a plurality of stations each operable to apply a processing step to the substrate. A first of the plurality of stations applies an energy curable ink to the substrate using a printing process. In some embodiments, this printing process is a gravure cylinder having indicia grooves formed on the gravure cylinder. The indicia grooves on the cylinder retain the energy curable ink until contact with the substrate whereby the energy curable ink is applied to the substrate. A curing unit is disposed downstream of the first of the plurality of stations. The curing unit receives the substrate and outputs an electron beam directed toward the energy curable ink to cure the energy curable ink and form a resultant energy curable layer upon the substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2019Publication date: November 14, 2019Inventors: Alain WITTMANN, Ron PERRY

Patent number: 10445113Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for setting the user interface to best suit the display screen of an electronic device, for instance, a cellular phone or a tablet. The method comprises a software application for installation upon an electronic device. The software has a plurality of user-interface variants. A remote server is maintained, having a repository mapping a list of a plurality of user interface variants best suited to a plurality of predetermined electronic devices. The software reports the identity of the electronic device to the server, and queries the server for the user-interface variant best suited for the specific device. When an answer is returned, the user interface is set accordingly. In some embodiments, a user can manually select a preferred user interface variant. His choice is reported to a preference analysis module which communicates with the server, for use in regard to future queries.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2012Date of Patent: October 15, 2019Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Ron Perry
