    Abstract: Aqueous heavy duty liquid laundry detergent compositions useful for laundering fabrics and providing cleaning and softening benefits. Such detergent compositions contain at least 5%, by weight of the composition, of a surfactant component; from about 0.1% to about 10% of a quaternary ammonium fabric-softening agent having the formula wherein R1 and R2 are individually selected from the group consisting of C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 hydroxy alkyl, benzyl, and —(C2H4O)xH where x has a value from about 2 to about 5; X is an anion; and (1) R3 and R4 are each a C8-C14 alkyl or (2) R3 is a C8-C22 alkyl and R4 is selected from the group consisting of C1-C10 alkyl, C1-C10 hydroxy alkyl, benzyl, and —(C2H4O)xH where x has a value from about 2 to about 5; and such compositions contain less than 10 ppm of trimethylamine and dimethylamine impurities.

    Abstract: A system for recovering methylene chloride from an aqueous waste stream is disclosed. The system includes a distillation unit, at least one heat transfer unit, receptacles for methylene chloride and waste product, a temperature probe and a controller configured to selectively divert product flow from the distillation unit to either of the receptacles or to a recycle line back to the distillation unit depending upon the temperature measured by the probe. Also disclosed is a related process of recovering methylene chloride with such a system.

    Abstract: An emulsified detergent composition is provided. The detergent composition comprises from about 0.1% to about 70%, by weight of the detergent composition, of a detersive surfactant wherein at least from about 70% to about 90%, by weight of the detersive surfactant, is a nonionic surfactant. The detergent composition also includes an electrolyte, in an amount sufficient to render the cloud point of the detergent composition to be less than about 20.degree. C., and water. The detersive surfactant and the water are in two phases in a weight ratio of about 1:10 to about 10:1 in the detergent composition. Superior cleaning and stain removal results because the emulsified detergent composition provides separation of the water and surfactant phases in a low water wash system over a broad temperature range and allows for cleaning below the cloud point of the surfactant system.

    Abstract: A method of laundering soiled fabrics comprises contacting the fabrics in an aqueous laundering solution with a granular detergent composition comprising at least about 1% by weight of a surfactant, at least about 1% by weight of a builder, from about 6% to about 9% by weight of a particulate foam control agent, from about 1% to about 5% by weight of bleach activator, from about 0.3% to about 7% by weight of a peroxygen bleaching agent and from about 0.05% to about 0.2% by weight of a cellulase enzyme, wherein the detergent composition produces the low level of foam required for optimal cleaning in washing machines employing a low water wash process.

    Abstract: A detergent composition in form of agglomerates is provided. The detergent composition contains from about 1% to about 50% by weight of a detersive surfactant system. The surfactant system itself includes, by weight of the surfactant system, at least about 30% of a sulfated surfactant selected from alkyl sulfates, alkyl ethoxy sulfates, secondary alkyl sulfates and mixtures thereof. The detergent includes from about 1% to about 50% of a hydrotrope selected from the group consisting of sulfyl succinates, xylene sulfonates, cumene sulfonates and mixtures thereof. Also, the detergent composition includes at least about 1% by weight of a detergency builder to enhance cleaning. The surfactant system, hydrotrope and builder are agglomerated to form detergent agglomerates which are substantially free of phosphates. The anionic surfactants in the detergent composition have significantly improved dissolution in aqueous laundering solutions, especially those kept at cold temperatures, i.e. 5.degree. C. to 30.degree. C.

    Abstract: A process for making a detergent composition in form of agglomerates is provided. The process for making a detergent composition comprises the step of adding a paste mixture to a mixer/densifier, wherein the paste mixture includes from about 1% to 50% by weight of a detersive surfactant system comprising at least about 30% of a sulfated suffactant selected from the group consisting of alkyl sulfates, alkyl ethoxy sulfates, secondary alkyl sulfates and mixtures thereof, and from about 1% to 50% of a hydrotrope selected from the group consisting of sulfyl succinates, xylene sulfonates, cumene sulfonates and mixtures thereof. The process also includes the steps of mixing at least about 1% by weight of a detergency builder into the mixer/densifier, and agglomerating the paste mixture and the builder into detergent agglomerates which are substantially free of phosphates.

    Abstract: A detergent composition in form of agglomerates is provided. The detergent composition comprises: (a) from about 10% to 20% by weight of an alkyl sulfate surfactant; (b) from about 5% to 15% by weight of an alkyl ethoxy sulfate surfactant having an average degree of ethoxylation of from about 1 to about 3; (c) from about 1% to about 5% by weight of a linear alkylbenzene sulfonate surfactant; (d) from about 0.1% to about 0.5% by weight of an amine oxide surfactant; (e) from about 35% to about 45% by weight of an aluminosilicate builder; and (f) from about 15% to about 20% by weight of sodium carbonate. The detergent composition is in the form of detergent agglomerates which are free of phosphates. The alkyl sulfate surfactant, alkyl ethoxy sulfate surfactant, and linear alkylbenzene sulfonate surfactant have improved solubility in an aqueous laundering solution, especially those kept at cold temperatures, i.e. 5.degree. C. to 30.degree. C.
