Patent number: 6641910Abstract: A stretch releasing adhesive tape article includes an elongate length of stretch releasing adhesive tape and a segmented liner arranged on the adhesive that can be used to form a manually engageable pull tab at a selected location on a discrete strip of tape cut from the length of tape. Each segment of the liner can be individually removed from the tape. The segmented liner allows the adhesive tape to be made in any length and wound upon itself to form a roll, and allows a user to cut a strip having a selected length depending on the end use application for the strip, and further allows the user to form a manually engageable non-adhesive pull tab at any location on the strip which can be grasped and pulled by a user to stretch remove the tape from a substrate.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1999Date of Patent: November 4, 2003Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: James L. Bries, Ronald C. Johansson

Patent number: 6575345Abstract: A portable dispenser with which lengths of a sheet material may be manually dispensed from a supply roll of the sheet material. The dispenser has a frame including a bridging portion adapted to extend along a portion of the periphery of the roll of sheet material, and end wall portions fixed to the ends of the bridging portion and adapted to extend along the opposite end surfaces of the roll of sheet material on which the roll of sheet material is rotatably journaled. A resiliently flexible cantilevered portion of the frame has a proximal edge fixed to the bridging portion and has a sharp cutting edge along its opposite distal edge. A guard portion of the frame extends between its end wall portions and has an inner surface extending along the side of the cutting edge opposite the roll.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2000Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: James F. Pitzen, Ronald C. Johansson, Mark D. Sorlien

Patent number: 6541089Abstract: An elongated length of a single or double-sided stretch releasing adhesive tape that can be cut to a selected length with integral pull tabs for stretch removing the tape from a substrate. The stretch releasing adhesive tape can be provided as long strips or roll form. The elongated stretch releasing adhesive tape article includes an elongate length of stretch releasing adhesive tape defining a longitudinal axis. The stretch releasing adhesive tape has a first surface and a second non-adhesive surface. The first surface comprises one or more adhesive regions and one or more non-adhesive regions arranged along the longitudinal axis. At least a portion of the non-adhesive regions comprise a series of pull tabs arranged along the longitudinal axis that can be grasped in combination with the second non-adhesive surface by a user during stretch removal of the tape from an associated substrate.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1999Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Michael D. Hamerski, Mark D. Sorlien, Ronald C. Johansson

Publication number: 20030047654Abstract: An article for use with a stretch releasing adhesive tape strip having a non-adhesive pull tab includes a unitary attachment member having a base plate portion sized to overlay the entire stretch releasing adhesive tape strip. The base plate portion includes a first portion that overlays the adhesive portion of tape strip and a flexible cover portion that overlays the non-adhesive pull tab. A user can manually urge the cover portion away from the pull tab, thereby accessing the pull tab and allowing the user to stretch remove the tape strip from the unitary attachment member and a substrate to which it is adhered.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2001Publication date: March 13, 2003Applicant: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Ronald C. Johansson, Michael D. Hamerski

Patent number: 5394870Abstract: A housing for a powered air purifying respirator blower unit is provided. The housing comprises first and second major faces which are spaced from each other, and a top wall, side walls, and bottom wall connecting the major faces along their peripheries. The first and second major faces and the top wall, side walls, and bottom wall enclose therebetween an air chamber. An air inlet and an air outlet are in communication with the air chamber, the air outlet being proximate the top wall. A support base is proximate the air outlet and connected to the first major face. A pommel-like strap support member protrudes from the support base in a direction away from the second major face and comprises a lower exterior support surface which is adapted to support a carrying strap thereon such that the carrying strap can extend away from the housing at a variety of angles. The air outlet opens through the top of the pommel-like member. The housing includes a means for retaining a carrying strap on the pommel-like member.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1993Date of Patent: March 7, 1995Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Ronald C. Patent number: 5107077Abstract: A waterproof electrical splice enclosure for receiving a single electrical connector splicing the ends of a plurality of insulated electrical conductors extending out of the connector in the same same direction and parallel to one another. The enclosure comprises an elongated hollow tube having one open end and one closed end having a cross-section slightly larger than the connector. A connector retainer is provided to retain the electrical connector adjacent the closed end of the tube with the insulated electrical conductors extending out of the open end of the tube, and the tube contains a waterproofing fluid which will not flow out of the tube but which will flow around the connector as it is slid into the tube to provide a waterproof seal around the connector and around and between the insulated conductors. A cap is connected to the tube at its open end by a hinge and has a bulbous protrusion to fit into and close the open end of the tube, and latch retains the cap in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1989Date of Patent: April 21, 1992Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co.Inventors: Albert H.
