  • Patent number: 5018898
Abstract: For an assembly comprising a shaft (106) and an article (104) mounted on the shaft, a device (116) mounted on the shaft prevents movement of the article (104) along the shaft towards the device. The device preferably comprises a ring (116).To protect the ring from accidential blows which may dislodge it, the assembly includes a cap (120).To simplify manufacture of the ring, the projections of "noses" (118) are provided separately, preferably as part of the cap.

  • Patent number: 4968175
Abstract: A torque transmitting assembly comprises a shaft, an article mounted on the shaft and a device secured to the shaft for transmitting torque between the shaft and the article. The device comprises an element which extends at least part the way round the shaft and fricitionally engages the shaft at two or more locations which lie in a first plane extending perpendicular to a second plane in which lies the longitudinal axis of the shaft. The first plane forms an angle with a third plane extending perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the shaft, which angle is no greater than tan.sup.-1 .mu., where .mu. is the coefficient of friction between the shaft and the element.

  • Patent number: 4948320
Abstract: To prevent movement of an article along a shaft or a bore, an element engages the article and engages the shaft or bore at locations forming an angle no greater than tan.sup.-1 .mu..The locations of engagement lie in a first plane extending perpendicular to a second plane in which lies the axis of the bore or shaft. A third plane extends perpendicular to the axis. The angle is between the first and third planes. .mu. is the coefficient of friction between the element and the bore or shaft.

  • Patent number: 4898481
Abstract: A bearing assembly comprises a housing, a bearing and a shaft. Reaction to a radial load includes substantial components to each side of the radial load line and opposing each other. These components laterally stabilize the bearing. These reaction components arise because the assembly has an arcuate less stiff portion in line with the radial load line.

  • Patent number: 4272135
Abstract: A seal for a rolling bearing has two annular sheet metal members and a resilient sealing element. The two annular members have adjacent axially extending portions which are radially spaced apart to provide an annular axially extending gap. The sealing element is fixed to one annular member, bridges the gap and is in rubbing contact with the other annular member.

  • Patent number: 4126362
Abstract: A plastic cage for a ball bearing in which flexible wipers are disposed between the ball pockets and extend axially at least as far as the projections which define the mouths of the pockets.
