  • Patent number: 5449075
Abstract: A foldable clothes line comprises a series of arms (12) which radiate outwardly from a lower cross (13) fixed to a central standard (11), the arms (12) being guided by stays (14) pivotally connected at their outer ends to the arms (12) and at their inner ends to an upper cross (16) mounted at the upper end of the standard (11), wherein each of the arms (12) comprises relative rotatable inner and outer arms portions (18, 19) which are hingedly connected by a hinge mechanism (20) so as to permit relative pivotal movement of the arm portions about a transverse axis, releasable locking mechanism (28) being provided for preventing relative pivotal movement of the arm portions (18, 19) when the arm (12) is in a fully extended position, arranged so that each of the arms (12) is independently movable between a collapsed condition wherein its inner and outer arm portions (18, 19) lie alongside one another and extend approximately vertically adjacent the standard (11) and a fully extended in-use position wherein the ar

  • Patent number: 5363975
Abstract: This invention relates to a clothes line having adjustable tension and to a line tensioner which is used for the taking up slack in a clothes line. According to this invention, a clothes line dryer (10) having an adjustable line tension comprises at least two frame members (11), a line (12) extending between the frame members (11) that is fixed at least one location on the frame member (11), a plurality of line guide members (13) located on each of the frame members (11) which substantially hold the line (12) with respect to each of the frame members (11) and allow the line (12) to extend between the frame members (11) at spaced intervals along the frame members (11), but which allow longitudinal movement of the line (12) therethrough, and at least one line tensioning means (14), (15) which engage the line (12) so as to shorten its length thereby creating a desired tension in the line (12).

  • Patent number: 5353533
Abstract: A improved collapsible ironing table assembly (10) of the type comprising a flat table top (11) having a peripheral framing member (12) extending therearound, a pair of spaced apart channels (13) extending longitudinally of the table top and secured to the underside surface thereof, and a pair of diagonally crossed pivotal support legs (17, 17') supporting the table top and movable between an extended working position and a retracted out-of-use position, the improvements being such that the table assembly can be collapsed to a compact approximately linear storage configuration in which the pivotal legs (17, 17') lie flat alongside one another nested essentially within the recess formed between the opposed channels (13) on the underside of the table top, the table when fully collapsed, having an overall depth which approximately equals the depth of the table top peripheral framing member.

  • Patent number: 4649764
Abstract: A clothes hoist comprising a bearing block secured to the outer surface of the fixed lower standard of a clothes hoist but having an annular projection which extends through an aperture in the wall of the lower standard and into an aperture in the side wall of a tubular inner member to thereby support the tubular inner member, the tubular inner member itself supporting a nut which threadably engages a non-circular threaded stem which, upon rotation of the nut, raises or lowers the upper standard. Rotation is effected by rotating a handle on the end of a driving pinion skirt journalled in the bearing block, and having a driving pinion on its inner end which meshes with a driven pinion on the nut. A body surrounds the lower standard and overlies an outwardly projecting portion of the bearing block.

  • Patent number: 4610364
Abstract: A lower cross assembly of an elevating clothes dryer which has a lower cross slidable over a stem, the lower cross having a plurality of pairs of outwardly radiating lugs, the lugs of each pair retaining between them a respective pin about which a clothes dryer arm is pivotal, and a closure cap releasably retained to the lower cross and retaining said pins in their lugs.
