Patent number: 6575333Abstract: A method for removing a child-resistant spout closure cap from a spout on a container and a child-resistant spout closure for a container configured to hold either a liquid or a solid material, with the container including a fill opening to the interior of the container and an elongated hollow spout having a distal end and a proximate end, with the proximate end configured to align with the fill opening of the container. The child-resistant spout closure comprises a lip formed on the distal end of the spout defining a spout opening in fluid communication with the interior of the spout, with the lip having a closure recess extending through the lip to a spout wall; and, a cap configured to fill the spout opening. The cap has a lock nub configured to engage the lip and seal the spout opening and selectively pass through the closure recess when the lock nub and the closure recess are aligned. When the lock nub and the closure recess are aligned, the cap is removable from the spout.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2000Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: Western Industries, Inc.Inventor: Ronald K. Patent number: 6435380Abstract: A spout for a container comprising a conduit having a first end connected to the container, an aperture and a second end configured to be inserted into an opening. The second end of the conduit is configured to direct fluid axially out of the second end of the conduit. A closure plate extending across the diameter of the conduit for preventing flow through the conduit is provided. The closure plate has a closed position to inhibit flow through the conduit in an open position to allow flow through the conduit. A sleeve movably responsive to inserting the conduit into the opening moves the closure plate from the closed position to the open position. The sleeve is spring loaded to hold the closure plate normally closed. A vent tube having a passage is coupled to and supports the closure plate centrally disposed in the conduit.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2000Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Western Industries, Inc.Inventor: Ronald K. Patent number: 6090339Abstract: A process for blow molding a hollow plastic product comprises introducing a hollow elongated parison of thermoplastic material between a pair of opened sections of a blow mold, and then closing the mold. The mold sections are closed along a linear direction of travel and, when closed, form a mold cavity including a narrow section extending in the direction of travel. The narrow section has a width less than about twice a wall thickness of the parison. As the mold sections close, they sever and enclose a segment of the parison within the mold cavity and shear a double-wall section of the parison into the narrow section to form a reinforcing flange on the product. Upon closing of the mold, a predetermined pressure is provided to an interior of the parison to expand the parison against internal surfaces of the mold cavity to form the remainder of the product. A mold for use in blow molding a hollow plastic product and a one-piece hollow plastic product made by the blow molding process are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1997Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Assignee: Western Industries, Inc.Inventor: Ronald K. Patent number: 5261562Abstract: A refuse container characterized by durability and light weight. The refuse container includes a lightweight blow-molded body, including integrally-formed bottom wall and side walls, the upper end of the side walls around the periphery thereof defining a mouth for receiving refuse, and for receiving and supporting a lid. An integrally-formed blow-molded handle extends outwardly from a rear side of the container adjacent the upper end thereof. The handle includes first and second spaced-apart hollow handle supports formed adjacent the side edges of the rear side of the container and a hollow handle bar integrally-formed with and extending between the first and second handle supports.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1992Date of Patent: November 16, 1993Assignee: Toter, Inc.Inventors: J. Timothy Prout, Ronald K. Raboin

Patent number: 5193708Abstract: A lid for covering and enclosing the mouth of a refuse container which includes a lid panel for covering and enclosing the mouth of the container. Hinges are integrally-formed with the lid panel for being received on a handle bar carried by the container adjacent the opening of the container. The hinges include first and second laterally spaced-apart hinges extending outwardly from the perimeter of the lid panel for being received on adjacent opposing ends of the handle bar. Each of the hinges include first and second opposed hinge claws defining an opening therebetween. The opening is sized to receive the handle of the container therein by means of a snap fit. Retainers are provided for retaining the hinges on the handle. The lid is constructed of thermoplastic.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1992Date of Patent: March 16, 1993Inventors: J. Timothy Prout, Ronald K. Raboin

Patent number: 5167351Abstract: A lid for covering and enclosing the mouth of a refuse container, including a lid panel for covering and enclosing the mouth of the container, and hinges integrally-formed with the lid panel for being received on a handle bar carried by the container adjacent the opening of the container. The hinges include first and second laterally spaced-apart hinges extending outwardly from the perimeter of the lid panel for being received on adjacent opposing ends of the handle bar. According to one preferred embodiment of the invention, the lid is constructed of thermoplastic.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1992Date of Patent: December 1, 1992Inventors: J. Timothy Prout, Ronald K. Raboin

Patent number: 4006838Abstract: Component parts of a steel container for storing a gas, specifically a mixture of stabilized methylacetylene and propadiene (C.sub.3 H.sub.4), are joined by a brazing alloy consisting of about 48% to 67% by weight copper; about 4.5% to about 7% by weight phosphorous and the balance nickel. During manufacture of the container, component parts may be joined either by brazing the joint with the specified alloy in wire or rod form or by applying to the joint a brazing paste comprising the specified metals unalloyed in powdered form and heating the joint in a furnace to melt and alloy the metals to form the joint. The brazing alloy has desirable metallurgical characteristics and is nonreactive to exposure to the specified gas stored in the container. The brazing paste has characteristics which enhance its utility for mass production techniques.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1976Date of Patent: February 8, 1977Assignee: Western Industries, Inc.Inventors: Richard S. Baumann, Ronald K. Raboin
