    Abstract: An invention is disclosed in which a mechanical hydraulic component includes fluid-bearing passageways. The fluid-bearing passageways are defined by a pre-formed tubing cluster which resides within a block which is cast around the tubing cluster in order to define a solid body which is fuse-bonded to the tubing cluster. The present mechanical body is formed by providing hollow tubing which is bent to provide a tube member having a desired configuration. A number of tube members are secured in order to provide a tubing cluster which defines the preformed fluid-bearing passageways. After that, a castable material is cast around the tubing cluster so as to produce a solid block with the tubing cluster embedded therein. The block and tubing cluster are formed of predetermined materials which result in chemical infiltration in order to produce a low-porosity fusion bond.

    Abstract: In accordance with the invention, the hydraulic dual solenoid directional control valve embodying the invention includes means at each end of the hydraulic dual solenoid directional control valve which includes a hinge fixed to the coil at each end, a lever pivoted to the hinge and an elbow connected to the hinge and connected to a common rod. The rod has a non-circular sleeve, preferably square, which projects normally through a complementary opening in a projection on one of the hinges. When the rod is moved in one direction, the sleeve and rod are moved such that an interference fit is provided with rotation between the sleeve and the projection on one hinge causing the lever to yieldingly apply force to the pin of the corresponding solenoid, actuating the valve in one direction.

    Abstract: Polyol (allyl carbonate), e.g., diethylene glycol bis(allyl carbonate), are polymerized in solution, i.e., in an organic solvent, until from about 20 to 50 percent of the allylic carbon-carbon linkages are consumed. The solvent is then removed yielding a product that is a gel-free, syrupy viscous liquid of unpolymerized monomer and polymer. This liquid polymer can be polymerized to a hard, transparent material with less shrinkage. Also described is the addition of mono- or polyfunctional acrylates to the liquid polymer to product a polymerizable mixture that can be cured quickly with the addition of a free-radical initiator.

    Abstract: Described is photochromic particulate material comprising a photochromic substance within a matrix of a polymerizate of a polyfunctional acrylate monomer. The photochromic particulate material may be produced by adding an organic photochromic substance to a polymerizable composition including a polyfunctional acrylate monomer and polymerizing the resultant admixture, e.g., by emulsion polymerization. In the case of emulsion or suspension polymerization, finely divided particulate organic photochromic materials are separated from the polymerization medium in the form of spheroidal thermoset photochromic particles of fairly uniform size. If desired, the particles recovered from the polymerization medium may be further ground in conventional attrition mills to further reduce the size of the particulate product. In the case of bulk polymerization, the polymerizate may be formed as a continuously cast sheet, which is then pulverized to a particulate material of pigmentary size.

    Abstract: Disclosed are polymer blends of bis(allyl carbonate) polymers with polymers of olefinically unsaturated monomers, and the precursor blends of bis(allyl carbonate) monomers with polymers of olefinically unsaturated monomers, and fabricable resins prepared therefrom. Also disclosed is a method of fabricating, e.g., molding, injection molding, extruding, and the like, the fabricable resins. The bis(allyl carbonate) polymer blend is taken to a fabricable state, i.e., a fusible pseudoplastic that does not lose liquid on fabrication, either by admixture or admixture and reaction. The fabricable resin is then fabricated, e.g., extruded, molded, or the like, and then polymerized to a hard polymer. Also disclosed are blends of bis(allyl carbonates), monomeric and polymeric, with polymers having olefinic unsaturation.

The composition contains a major portion of diol bis(allyl carbonate) monomer, and effective amounts of a multifunctional acrylate monomer, and a viscosity increasing polymer. Also disclosed is a method of reducing the haze in polymeric compositions of (a) a diol bis(allyl carbonate) and (b) a viscosity increasing polymer, by the addition of a multifunctional arcylate monomer to the monomeric composition prior to the polymerization thereof.
