  • Patent number: 5277555
Abstract: An improved pilot valve construction for use in a fluid and mechanically actuated double diaphragm pump which includes a housing, first and second axially spaced fluid pressure chambers, first and second flexible diaphragms disposed in the pressure chambers and mechanically interconnected for simultaneous reciprocal movement and each defining a flexible wall of an adjacent pumping chamber and a pilot valve projecting axially into the pressure chambers and slidable axially in response to engagement by one of the diaphragms and wherein the pilot valve is provided with one or more axially extending grooves in its peripheral surface. The pilot valve may also be provided with a radially extending projection in its peripheral surface.

  • Patent number: 5232352
Abstract: A double diaphragm pump includes a connecting shaft for interconnecting the opposed diaphragms mounted in the pump body for reciprocal movement relatively thereof and a pilot valve sleeve telescoped over the shaft and movable axially in response to movement of the connecting shaft and having a plurality of axially directed circumferentially disposed recesses thereon for fluid transfer through the pilot valve cavity. A spool valve assembly is also carried by the body in a cavity which is in selected fluid communication with a source of air pressure, the pilot valve, the atmosphere and the pressure chambers of the pump. The pilot valve sleeve also has at least one projecting annular rib which engages the usual O-rings of the cavity in which the connecting rods and pilot valve sleeve reciprocate for assisting movement past the O-rings in response to pressure from the spool valve.

  • Patent number: 4690330
Abstract: A flap for a jet engine flap-type nozzle is constructed of a plurality of sheet metal louver elements along the length of the flap, each louver element has a forward U-section having a forward flange and a rearward flange with an interconnecting bottom portion, a plate member extends rearwardly from the end of the rearward flange at the open end of the U-section, the plate member extending over the U-section of its adjacent louver element, the plurality of louver elements being connected together by welding the forward flange to the mating rearward flange, a beam plate extending axially along the U-sections and being fixed thereto, the plate members of adjacent louvers being free to move relative to each other; a stiffener is fixed to the sides of the flap formed by the ends of the plate members, permitting the free movement.

  • Patent number: 4222232
Abstract: An improved combustor for a gas turbine engine is disclosed. Techniques for reducing the level of noxious pollutants emitted by the combustor are developed. In one embodiment, a combination of serpentine geometried, fuel-mixing tubes discharging to the radially outward area of the combustor and an axially oriented, fuel-mixing tube near the center of the combustor are adapted to generate a strong centrifugal force field within the combustor by swirling the fuel/air mixtures flowing therethrough. The force field promotes rapid mixing and combustion within the chamber to reduce both the magnitude of the combustor temperature and the period of exposure of the medium gases to that temperature. The tube at the center of the combustor is adapted to swirl the medium flowing therefrom in a circumferential direction counter to the direction in which the medium from the serpentine geometried tubes is swirled.

  • Patent number: 4014459
Abstract: A unique container closure is disclosed which includes a flat top surface, a vertical side wall, and a sloping intermediate wall interconnecting the top and the side wall at an angle to the vertical. Interiorly of the closure are depending, radially inwardly extending reinforcement ribs which are integrally connected to the top surface, the intermediate wall, and the side wall for stiffening purposes. An annular depending rib is also contained on the interior surface of the intermediate wall, and the inner surface of the side wall has a recess, an inwardly extending annular flange, and a further recess adapted to engage a corresponding lip on the container per se.
