  • Patent number: 7390144
Abstract: A method for installing a pre-cast/pre-stressed concrete and steel pile used in the construction of pile foundations and the resulting installed pile that has its distal end anchored to bedrock is disclosed. After the pile is located on bedrock, a first hole is drilled into bedrock that is of sufficient depth to accommodate a lower portion of the steel pipe that extends below the concrete pile and contains a plurality of orifices. A second hole is drilled into bedrock that is below and concentric to the first hole and has a diameter than that is usually less than that of the first hole. The second hole forms an anchoring socket to accommodate an anchoring anchor. Grout is injected into the steel pile and anchoring socket until the grout fills the voids in the interior of the steel pipe. Grout also seeps through the orifices in the lower end of said steel pipe and fills the second hole, and an annular space between the outer circumference of the steel pipe and the walls of the first hole.

  • Patent number: 4700751
Abstract: An insulated pipe apparatus comprises an inner conduit for carrying fluids, an insulated material surrounding the conduit which extends along substantially the entire length of the inner conduit, a sheet of corrugated material surrounding the insulating material so as to provide a plurality of substantially constant cross-section elongated voids along the length of the insulation, a rigid outer casing surrounding the corrugated sheet, and an end seal covering the end cross-section of the pipe apparatus except for the inner conduit and providing a means to interconnect the elongated voids and to connect them with external equipment. Slots cut into an insulating material may be substituted for the corrugated sheet to provide a plurality of substantially constant cross-section elongated voids. A gel coat may be added to the exterior surface of the outer casing to provide further protection from the environment for the pipe apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4522532
Abstract: A bottom-seated portable cofferdam is disclosed along with a method of using the cofferdam for providing working access to underwater surfaces which are generally horizontal. The cofferdam includes a housing having a bottom opening with a skirt extending about its periphery, first and second seal means being secured to the skirt in spaced-apart relation to form a differential pressure chamber open along its bottom. In use, the cofferdam is first positioned adjacent the underwater surfaces, water then being evacuated from the chamber in order to develop a differential pressure therein for urging the cofferdam into engagement with the underwater surfaces.
