Abstract: This invention concerns multimodal computer navigation, that is operation of a computer using traditional modes such as keyboard together with less conventional modes such as speech and gestures. The invention has particular application for navigation of information presentations, such as webpages and database user interfaces, and is presented as a method, a browser, software and a computer system. The information navigated is not described in a multimodal way. Two or more unimodal navigation signals are received from a user and interpreted. These interpretations are fused to automatically determining the user's intended navigation selection.

Abstract: An ad hoc telecommunications network comprises a plurality of mobile devices, cached data being distributed amongst the devices. A manager device is elected for example based on highest compared received signal strength amongst the devices to manage the distributed data. The manager election can by dynamically up-dated to compensate for changes in the network parameter for example devices entering or leaving the network, or physical relocation of the devices within the network. In addition, the ad hoc network can communicate with a fixed infrastructure, the fixed infrastructure maintaining a table identifying a gateway device for direct communication with the fixed infrastructure, allowing communication with a mobile device within the ad hoc network. Yet further the ad hoc network can provide a communications route between two remote fixed infrastructures.

Abstract: The invention relates to a group application for group formation and management, in particular in a wireless environment. The present invention provides a group application in which a membership list of a group is kept updated automatically by communications between the group applications of the group. The group application handles all the complexity involved in setting up a group and maintaining a membership list for the group, without user intervention. Advantageously, the group application is implemented as a software agent. The invention also relates to an electronic device having a group application or software agent of the invention loaded therein.
