Abstract: A valve operation system particularly well suited for remote and/or automatic operation of many different irrigation valves. A linear actuator is provided with a rod which extends from and retracts into a housing. A connecting arm assembly interconnects the valve stem and the rod such that the extension and retraction of the rod is transferred into the rotational motion of the valve stem and the operation of the valve. The system components are held in place by a mounting plate which may be secured to a number of different valves. A manual operation assembly is included to allow a user to manually open or close the valve if necesasary. A valve stem adaptor is also provided to allow embodiments of the present invention to be adapted to the different valve stems found on various valves. Thus, one embodiment of the present invention may be adapted to be used with several different valves while providing reliable operation.

Abstract: An apparatus mountable on an irrigation pipe or other type of pipeline for use in controlling valves disposed within those pipes. The apparatus includes a mounting bracket which is attachable to the valve mechanism and the irrigation pipe. The mounting bracket includes mounting plates for various components of a drive mechanism which includes an electric motor, a gear box, a main gear and a drive chain which places the gear box in communication with the main gear. The main gear is attached to the valve mechanism such that by operating the motor, the valve may be turned on or off.

Abstract: A valve apparatus and method for controlling flow of water to an end gun of a pivot irrigation apparatus. An actuator mechanism for the valve apparatus includes a horizontally mounted, downwardly extended contact bar interconnected by a mechanical linkage to the valve. Contact posts are selectively positioned at preselected intervals along the path of travel of the pivot irrigation apparatus at locations where they will be engaged by the contact bar to rotate the same. The rotational movement of the contact bar is translated by the mechanical linkage into a corresponding rotation of the valve.
