  • Patent number: 11459876
Abstract: A method of drilling a wellbore system, including determining a conductive formation layer from a plurality of formation layers having a first well extending therethrough, the first well having a first work string therein, the first work string including a device, placing a second well at a distance from the first well, the distance selected to allow communication of an electrical signal between the first well and the second well through the conductive formation layer based on a resistivity of the electrically conductive formation layer, disposing a second work string in the second well, and communicating the electrical signal from the second work string to the first work string through the electrically conductive formation layer to operate the device.

  • Patent number: 8047293
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a flow-actuated actuator. The actuator includes, a tubular movable relative to a structure within which the tubular is positionable, and a plurality of full bore flow-resisting elements disposed at the tubular, the plurality of full bore flow-resisting elements having a greater resistance to fluid flow therethrough than any one of the plurality of full bore flow-resisting elements has alone.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 20, 2009
Date of Patent: November 1, 2011
    Assignee: Baker Hughes Incorporated
Inventors: Yang Xu, Richard Xu, Ronnie David Russell, Namhyo Kim, Lale Korkmaz

  • Patent number: 6668699
Abstract: A porous barrel, projectile passageway, or tube as a type of supersonic nozzle for projectile propulsion therein and method for optimizing projectile velocity therethrough. The porous barrel features a barrel wall containing holes, passageways, or otherwise porous material through the barrel wall that allows gas, fluid, or other matter to exit or move in a direction away from the barrel interior. The flow of gas, fluid, or other matter away from the barrel interior allows gas within the barrel to expand in a direction transverse to the projectile path. The amount of transverse expansion of the gas in the barrel interior can be controlled by the porosity of the barrel wall to cause any desired amount of gas expansion. Transverse expansion allows axial gas velocities within the barrel to exceed the local speed of sound as if the gas had passed through a converging diverging nozzle.
