  • Patent number: 4763468
Abstract: The present invention reveals a process for manufacturing a high strength woven fabric that is particularly suitable for use as a tire reinforcement which comprises:(a) drawing a polymeric yarn to a draw ratio that is 70% to 99% of the draw ratio that would fully draw the yarn to produce an optimally drawn yarn;(b) twisting at least two of said optimally drawn polymeric yarns into a cord;(c) weaving a plurality of said cords into a greige woven fabric; and(d) stretching and relaxing said greige woven fabric under conditions sufficient to reduce the denier of the cords in said fabric by 1% to 10%.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 3, 1986
Date of Patent: August 16, 1988
Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company
Inventors: Donald L. Brown, James T. Weissert, Roop S. Bhakuni, Gregory S. Rogowski

  • Patent number: 4155394
Abstract: A cord composite suitable for rubber tire reinforcement comprised of a plurality of plies of yarns selectively cabled in a manner so that, upon application of longitudinal stress, at the initial elongation of the cable, the primary load bearing ply is a polyester or a nylon yarn and so that after appreciable elongation of the cable, the primary load bearing yarn is an aramid yarn. The invention further relates to a pneumatic rubber tire, industrial belt or hose having a carcass containing a fabric of such a cord as a reinforcing member.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4132693
Abstract: An aqueous alkaline dispersion of a rubber latex and dihydroxy-phenol-aldehyde resins consisting essentially of resorcinol-aldehyde resins and catechol-aldehyde resins is useful in forming an adhesive bond between reinforcing materials such as nylon and rubber compounds. It is essential that the catechol-aldehyde resin be made separately from the resorcinol-aldehyde resin with which it is later mixed in solution. The dispersions of this invention result in improved aged adhesion and lower fabric stiffness than the older resorcinol-formaldehyde latex dispersions.

Inventors: Roop S. Bhakuni, Richard F. Laske
  • Patent number: 4031288
Abstract: The bonding of tire cord to rubber is improved by first treating the surface of the tire cord with a solvent solution of a polyisocyanate in essentially small amounts and then treating the cord with an adhesive comprising a phenol/aldehyde resin, a phenol aldehyde resin blocked polyisocyanate and a rubber latex.
