    Abstract: A polymeric lubricant additive that behaves as a viscosity index improver and imparts enhanced anti-oxidancy, dispersancy, and anti-wear properties to said lubricant oil has been prepared. The polymeric substrate is a random co- or terpolymer of ethylene propylene and a third monomer; or a block terpolymer of styrene--ethylenebutylene--styrene where hydrogenation has removed aliphatic unsaturation.Ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or acid anhydride is grafted to these aforementioned substrates and imidized with amino-thiadiazole of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is H.sub.2 or a (C.sub.1 -C.sub.10) alkyl radical selected from the group consisting of a alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxyl, aralkyl, alkaryl, hydroxyalkyl and aminoalkyl, to produce said polymeric lubricant additive.

    Abstract: A dispersant/antioxidant bound, Viscosity Index-improving methacrylate polymer composition having a molecular weight ranging from about 20,000 to about 2,500,000. The composition comprises a base oil and methacrylate monomers and antioxidant monomer with inherent dispersancy. The composition being prepared by:(a) mixing a antioxidant/dispersant monomer with alkyl methacrylates and an oil solvent to provide an intermediate reaction mixture;(b) stirring and purging said reaction mixture by nitrogen ebullation for about 25-35 minutes at about 200 ml/min;(c) heating said purged mixture to about 75.degree.-85.degree. C.;(d) adding both a chain transfer agent and a radical polymerization catalyst to said heated mixture and then after about 2.0 hours adding an additional amount of said catalyst to said heated mixture, and then heating said heated mixture for an additional 2.0 hours;(e) increasing the temperature of said heated mixture to about 95.degree.-105.degree. C.

    Abstract: An additive composition prepared by the steps comprising:(a) reacting a styrene-ethylene butylene-styrene block copolymer having styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene molecular weight ratios, respectively, of 1:6:1 to 1:3:1 characterized in that unsaturation in the styrene blocks is equal to or greater than 50 percent and the ethylene butylene block is hydrogenated leaving no more than 10 percent unsaturation, with at least one olefinic carboxylic acid acylating agent to form one or more acylating reaction intermediates characterized by having a carboxylic acid acylating function within their structure, and(b) reacting said reaction intermediate in (a) with a hydrocarbon substituted or unsubstituted N-naphthyl-phenylenediamine or mixtures thereof and a lubricating oil composition containing same are provided.

    Abstract: A polymeric additive prepared from ethylene and at least one (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha-monoolefin and a non-conjugated dienes or triene comprising from about 15 to 80 mole percent of ethylene and from about 20 to 85 mole percent of the (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha-monoolefin and from about 0 to 15 mole percent of the diene or triene. This polymeric substrate has a number average molecular weight ranging from about 5,000 to about 500,000. It is modified by reacting the polymer with an unsaturated epoxide wherein the intermediate graft co- or terpolymer is characterized as having pendant epoxides within the substrate.Post-reacting this graft co- or terpolymer with 1,3,4-thiadiazine modified with substituted phenols, diaryl amines, or phenophiazines generates a polymeric lubricant additive with enhanced anti-oxidant, dispersant, and anti-wear properties.

    Abstract: A polymeric lubricating oil additive containing pendant perfluoroaliphatic urethane units that behaves as a VI Improver and a fuel economy enhancer when added to lubricating oil compositions. The polymeric substrate may be a copolymer of 15-85 mole % ethylene and propylene or a terpolymer of 15-85 mole % ethylene, propylene, and 20-80 mole % of a non-conjugated diene or triene (C.sub.3 -C.sub.10) alpha olefin. The copolymer or terpolymer substrate has a molecular weight range of about 5,000 to about 500,000. A graft copolymer or terpolymer containing pendant isocyanate groups is prepared by reacting the ethylene propylene co- or terpolymer with an acrylating agent. Post-reacting the copolymer or terpolymer containing the pendant isocyanate group with a perfluoroaliphatic alcohol generates the additive.
